Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

Na mates Marauder is the king of the heavies. Fight me.
I adore the MAD but the BEST intro tech heavy is the "light weight" stalker.

Change my mind (or don't) coffee meme.

So in my little circle of TT friends, I'm in a campaign and I'm a drac. (I still like girls) we're in war of 3039, I gotta say a company thats 1/3 dragons, (all grand) 2 hunchies a beemer, 2 panthers two jenners and a stalker is absolutely great. I've been mostly facing lighter but more foes lots of vees but man we can really throw hate.

In the story Com* also donated a few DHS I actually dropped one of them in the jenner and it's been a learning curve to play an intro jenner with DHS. Jenners are shoot and scoot but now I can stand... but still paper armor... it's a lot of gamble actually really like playing it. I think because it moves so far a second burn in the butt is always worth it but other times i've had rears cover so I got heat but still need to run less I get rekt.

The Jenner is the only good thing to come out of the Draconis Combine.

Change my mind.

Hunchback all the way baby. This 50t can punch far above his weight category. And desigh is awesome

Oh damn, thank you for reminding me, I remember back in the day I had the Hunchback toy based on the cartoon iteration of Battletech.

"You DARE refuse my batchall?!"

Honestly I really like the Word of Blake mechs, design wise at least. Shame everything else that came out of the Jihad isn't too great.
Never really looked too much into the Jihad era. What was so bad about it? From what I'd seen from MechAssault, the Word of Blake was kind of a gary stu faction but not nearly as offensive as half the garbage that passes as writing these days or anything PGI has done.

MechAssault isn't canon, in fact it's as anti-canon as possible so don't take the WoB from that game as gospel. Fun as hell and I wish we got another one so we'd have 3 different types of Battletech games (BT, MW, MA) though. I think we talked about it a while ago but I'm too lazy to search for them, the Jihad itself wasn't the worst thing ever but the fact that it led up to the ever-hated Dark Ages certainly helps sully its image.

As to why Dark Ages is so hated that people shit on the Jihad by proxy, one of the big issues was because FASA (I think, hope I'm not mixing up companies) was facing a crisis of sorts, so rather than die completely they simply ceased operation and proceeded to license Battletech and other IPs out. This was around the FedCom war, also known as peak BT, IIRC. I don't recall the details but the setting jumped pretty far ahead, the writers were told to "figure it out" while also on a time crunch, which culminated in some of the worst decisions imaginable. Like, whoever was in charge of writing this shit was the worst people to have on a time crunch.

Writing quality dropped hard, beloved characters were butchered or killed unceremoniously (not even off screen, barely a paragraph dedicated to them before swiftly moving on), random factions propping up with no build up and probably to die immediately, it's basically the End-Times of Battletech. This also affected the Jihad I believe since later on another company tried to unfuck it, which pleased nobody and fucked the timeline even more. It was just a big mess. Someone could probably explain it better than I can but that's the gist of it.

The Panther also exists, don't diss the Jenner's best pal like that.
Runs hot and is slow, and the Dracs only doubled-down by adding an ERPPC but not DHS.

The 9ALAG is okay though, as are some of the later versions that are actually you know... maneuverable.

Mother - (and here's the important part) - fucker.

Catalyst Game Labs ruins Battletech with nonsense, fired Pardoe and hired his stalker in his place, can't even afford to make new products without rattling the e-beggar's cup on Kickstarter, and now they're using tariffs as an excuse for price hikes. The sheer chutzpah of these people.

Christ. I remember trying to get into BTech around here but most of the people I tried to meet up with turned out to be flakes. I was mad and disappointed at the time, now I feel like I dodged an absolute ocean of slapfighting and stupidity.

Thank God for MegaMek at least.

Well, no shit. Random virtue signaling faggots have never been good at actually running a company. Catalyst has been notable for the utter slop they've been releasing for like the last decade now, I'm frankly astounded anyone's been buying any of it.

It was still a fun arcadey take on battletech. Though all I ever knew of the dark ages was some of the fugly looking and completely out of place mech designs through the dark age miniatures. Didn't pay attention to the story or lore at all since all that seemed to matter to everyone i knew that liked mechwarrior was "Clans vs IS while using a mech you like." With most of the clans being relegated to obscure footnotes in history only discoverable via random wiki articles if their name isn't Clan Wolf or Clan Jade Falcon.

That makes a lot more sense now as to why the "House Steiner vs House Davion" conflict was a hell of a lot more cohesive and interesting than most of the other eras involving Inner Sphere infighting. Though I still have no idea who the hell half of these characters are nor why I should care beyond Kerensky founding the clans from the exodus of the ancient star league. All that seems to matter is there more named mechs to fight on screen as they are often killed off in the same mission they are introduced in and have no character arcs to speak of. Something mechwarrior is desperately missing.

Hope Mage Leader covers this, that'll be fun. Fuck it, Razorfist too since he's an amusing midwit.

hey're using tariffs as an excuse for price hikes

"our industry is inherently international by nature"

Yes, try ordering from Europe something from their site and tell me how it goes. Or wait a year for the Kickstarter and pay 60% of the value on postage expenses. Or try to get some metal models and see how it goes.

The only solution I've found to find stuff is to pirate everything regarding written products and pray that some local shop is so retarded to stock Btech and wait until it gets discounted because no one here plays. Happened more than once.

If those retards were international they would have some kind of Euro hub that is not Amazon.

Fucking amazing there are companies out there that are worse than Games Workshop and have less of the merits.

This isn't just a Catalyst thing, multiple game developers/distributors are having to increase the prices because of the Tariffs this is also expected to hit the video game market as well.

New MW5C Clans expansion. "MW5 Clans: Ghost Bear Flash Storm." The game isn't dead after all.

Adds Elementals, that you "command." Presuming you can't pilot them.

Greetings Warriors!

Piranha Games is excited to announce MechWarrior 5: Clans - Ghost Bear Flash Storm!

Leo Showers is dead. As Ulric Kerensky changes the rules of engagement, Clan Ghost Bear khans Bjorn Jorgenson and Aletha Kabrinski plot their next moves as they strive to take the lead in the race towards Terra. Take command of the Silveroot Keshik, an elite unit tasked with proving Ghost Bear’s strength and reclaiming lost glory.

Engage in a Trial of Possession to claim the powerful Ebon Jaguar and Night Gyr ‘Mechs. Face off against the legendary Second Sword of Light in a battle for control of Alshain, a world replete with ‘Mech factories and orbital shipyards capable of producing warships.

Unleash 4 new OmniMechs and 4 new BattleMechs, and command Elementals as you take the fight to space and beyond in this thrilling expansion!

Steam desc has a bit more information:
Key Features
New 12 mission Story Campaign – Lead the Silveroot Keshik in a relentless campaign to restore Ghost Bear’s honor and dominate the battlefield.
4 New OmniMechs – Night Gyr, Ebon Jaguar, Fire Moth, and Huntsman, all with full Omnipod customization.
4 New BattleMechs – Wield the legendary Kodiak, Jenner IIC, Hunchback IIC, and Rifleman IIC.
Expanded MechLab – Fine-tune your BattleMechs with enhanced customization options including engine swapping.
Elementals – Star Commander Rook leads his Elemental point in support of your star. Direct Rook and his point using the command wheel while facing the elemental squads of Jade Falcon and Smoke Jaguar.
Evolved Combat Features – Fight on the hull of the Grizzly, the Ghost bear command ship, and face the Iron Talon a powerful new boss in the most intense MechWarrior combat yet.

So it's another whole new story campaign for Clans. Has space combat? Engine Swapping... for the non 4 apparently non-Omnimechs? And yeah you don't pilot the Elementals, you control them.

Still no mod support or career mode, but this bodes well. I didn't expect them to keep adding new story mode campaigns, this changes my opinion on the business model. Although I'm guessing the expansion will be more than expected (~$30-40?) cause of the additional stuff (many maps, voice acting, cutscenes, etc). But if it subsidizes the free updates that keep refining the engine and gets us closer to Mods and Career mode, well... IIRC Flash Storms were how they referenced the mini-campaigns that you'd do in MW5M's career mode, weren't they? That'd be interesting, a career mode where you break away from career moding it up to do the expansions from MW5C (and when the modders get ahold of it, MW5M).

Ninja Edit:

Mentioned on the website announcing this expansion, beta Mod tools are coming with the free update that will come with this expansion. Trials of War is their PVP Arena mode DLC they made free which is totally not them working on MWO2 using this game's engine and having players test it as they go.
