Wolves on the Border has a full unabridged release on Audiobook format.

But because of this it looks like the old abridged audiobooks are being removed from Audible and other sites that are supporting the new stuff.

I'll have to pick up Wolves on the border. Currently making my way through the Jade Falcon trilogy
It's an excellent companion piece to the Warrior Trilogy, although it has some amusing quirks (who the fuck in a neo-Japanese culture would name their kid Jerry Akuma? That's like naming your kid John Badtouch or something in the west).

It also illustrates an important point in the BT universe: racism isn't dead, it's just shifted away from the usual patterns to a new format. They don't hate you cause you're black, they hate you cause you're a dirty Kuritan psycho.

From what I know this is actually a quirk of the Kuritan language. Their neo-japanese is pretty much cobbled together from real Japanese, poor translations and made-up words.

Which is fair. Considering the time period (about a thousand years from now), I imagine the Combine being cobbled together from copies of Clavell's Shogun and bootleg episodes of anime.

Come now, surely nobody would be so bold as to cobble together an entire star nation based on nothing but several thousand years worth of half-remembered historical inaccuracies and inconsistencies.

Okay, my bad.

it is a scammy mech selling tactic
but having a couple cheap BV mechs lying around isnt that bad
bad mech is better then no mech

Well, it is an 'ad hoc' star, which translates to 'we tossed our pilots into whatever we had on hand'.

The Pack Hunter isn't terrible as a sniper and harasser, but that's about all it can do. At least it has good mobility as a 7/11/7, and getting hit by an ER-PPC more than a couple times will make any opposition unhappy.

The Hellion though... boy, that Prime loadout reminds me of an Assassin, and not in a good way. Most of the other variants aren't great either, though the -B at least has a brutal punch with its heavy lasers.

Isn't that the business model of the new bundles? 1 good mech mixed with 1 okayish ones and 2 mehs?
Yeah, not all of them are entirely terrible, but they also want you to play them as is out of the box.

Thats about where its usefulness lies, at least with classic. The ER-PPC is the only thing it’s got going so if you lose that then the mech is sunk.

You get 4 heavy mediums, but definitely the best variant. I haven’t looked at the C, so I’m guessing it has some kind of tech stuff like a targeting computer, but the 2095 BV seems a bit steep.

Pretty true of any light mech with a large weapon though.

1x HLL, 4xHML, 1x HSL, and three more double heat sinks, which don't help much with the amount of heat you're going to generate (18 for the heavy large, 7 per heavy medium, and 3 for the heavy small). 26 heat capacity means you really cannot fire all your weapons at once.

The -C carries an ATM-6 with one ton of each ammo type, and four ER MLs linked to a targeting computer. Not terrible; you can harass with the ATM at long range, then when they close switch to the HE rounds and your lasers.
