Whatever's the reason, good riddance. Freikörperskultur should be legally required on the beach. The hotter you are, the less you're allowed to wear.

Some Argentinian Volleyball Teams used to have shorts so small that could rival the skimpy bikinis worn in Beach Volleyball:

And the Greek National Volleyball team wore one-piece uniforms at one point too, just like how the Cuban National Volleyball team did:



Also, some Volleyball Teams had advertisements/sponsors on the said small shorts, although this probably had the unintended effect in the end:



And the Venezuelan National Volleyball Team wore bloomers at the 2008 Olympics, even though they were retired in other countries years earlier:
