i was told to unfollow someone AFTER the fact one time. we'd been mutual followers for a few years, i made ONE anti-SJW post and she messaged me "unfollow me lol" and i did to be polite. you've probably seen the posts that go something along the lines of "if you post x or subscribe to x then unfollow me right now." giving people ultimatums is such a manipulative tactic. while people are going to agree with you on some things, you can't be so nitpicky and feel offended if someone who disagrees with you looks at your content on a public forum.

A friend of mine did that when I told him that I didn't agree with Tumblr's brand of feminism a year back. He then unfollowed me for the umpteenth time (since he has done so before). Since then, I was always nervous to state my opinion (since most of my friends on there follow that SJW crap).

As for the BYF thing, it's childish and pretentious. As if the person writing the blog is someone of importance. Oh wait...

The ones I never got was the "don't follow if you're over 18!", like....what difference does my age make if I'm following the person? And how would you know if they didn't post their age on their blogs in the first place?

Then, on the other hand the main offenders of this are 13-15 year olds.

Like many SJW things, a BYF would be something helpful if anyone doing them had a lick of sense.

By that I meant a BYF that's not "don't follow if you're cis lol" but something like "If you really don't like gore then you probably don't want to follow me" basically a BYF that gives a rundown about the actual content of the blog for handy reference, including anything objectionable.

Those are the kids. Their parents have drilled into their heads that strange adults are all BAD KIDNAPPERS. So they try to only make friends with the people "their own age".

Like it was already said, there are few sensible BYF posts, however more and more people are starting to be convinced Tumblr is some sort of safe space heaven. Lmao good luck achieving that with very public site.

Because majority of them doesn't believe that issue lies withing stuff they reblog and blog about but more what's about those people that hit ''follow'' button. Something in manner of ''I'm not problematic, you are!'' and what I've learn by now is if you're about to say something in manner of this sentence, then yeah you're the one that has problems not your followers.

tbh i feel like its all flaunt and show, since that niche of tumblr gets pretty radical and anybody can be lanced at a moment's notice for a slipup. basically like saying "THESE ARE MY POLITICS AND I TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY. LOOK. LOOK HOW SERIOUSLY I TAKE THEM."

i had a byf page for a while but it was basically "you probably shouldn't follow if you dislike imagery or discussion of taxidermy/pictures of dead animals/animals eating other animals for your own sake" because im an animal rehab worker and post pics of the animals i work with on occasion so i get some followers from that, and it freaked people out that i was posting both of those things on the same blog (even though all of it was thoroughly tagged).

i dont usually mind byf pages if its like. a warning of the shit you post for potential followers, rather than "cater specifically to MY needs".

On tumblr people usually think that followers=friends and that tumblr is a safe space and that seems to be the root of the tumblrina phenomenon

There are occasionally sensible BYF's, for example, warnings of explicit content or flashing gifs and such. The majority of BYF's boil down to the same few things, though:
  • don't follow if you don't intend to asspat!
  • don't follow if you question my self diagnosis!
  • don't follow if you're fictionkin of the same characters i am!
  • don't follow if you have a mental health condition that isn't as special and unique as mine!

On the note of fictionkin, I remember seeing a few BYFs that said something like "don't follow if you ship X." Shipping wars seem to be a common thing.

I love BYF pages.

Holy crap that last one has so many buzzwords that I have no idea what they mean. I'm too lazy to google. Yes, you should explain m1kahel. I have no idea who or what he is. What does TWERF ans SWERF mean? What is Sverigedemokraterna? So many acronyms and jargons that new people coming in would be confused with. Viochann? Cabbagelama?

Is this even English? Then again it is not like these people follow the same dictionary I do. For all they care the English language can just stand in the corner, pull down his pants and wait to be violated.

Once again claims against bigotry and yet bigotry still being demonstrated against certain groups of people especially if you are the wrong skin color and gender.

Trans Woman Exclusionary Feminist and Sex Worker Exclusionary Feminist, respectively.

Two more crappy brands of feminist, basically.

If you think there is ever anything problematic/harmful about sex work (including but not limited to workers who are underage, trafficked or have addictions), tumblr has decided you are a SWERF. Term is completely meaningless.

From what I see it's less of a gripe with people who criticize the *many* shitty aspects of sex work (trafficking, addiction, underage, etc, etc) and more of the feminists who will piss on women who willfully engage in sex work of their own volition, from cam stuff to stripping to prostitution.

Which, ya know, is pretty crappy of them.

I have seen otherwise, hence my comment above. Most of the ERFs have become functionally meaningless due to being sprayed around in discussion that... doesn't seem to be happening in good faith.

There is also a difference between pissing on sex workers as individuals, or indeed a class, and finding sex work problematic per se for women as a class. I know, I know, second wave is dead.

I can't stand blogs like that. Obviously people follow you because they like your blog, but they're not going to agree with every single post you make. If that bothers you so much I have the perfect place for you:

"Tell me why you unfollowed" is also a growing trend on Tumblr.
