This thread reminded me to make a BYF page that is more or less of a "you should like/won't like this blog if [x, y, z]." Half of it is pretty much the polar opposite of half the crap you come across, mostly telling self-diagnosers and tupukes that they're better off scooting elsewhere.

And yeah the whole "tell me why you unfollowed" thing is for the poor saps who say that it's necessary for them to know lest they keel over from anxiety due to a dip in follower count.

Don't follow if u ship incest/pedophilia pairings, but i encourage you to continue to do so if it gives u psychological comfort

that does have some merit, I guess, I was something, something, something powerlevel and as a result have some odd sexual tastes but, I trust that most people can see the difference between fantasy and reality with that sort of thing, I don't know why it so greatly offends tumblr.

>Homophobic/Queerphobic

Is that not the same thing?

No, because obviously, homophobia doesn't apply to bi/pan/asexuals.

Duh.

That fad really annoys me.

Just ridiculous how those bloggers try to limit their followbase on a public website and therefore making it their "safespace"
Also those special snowflake byf are basically the same shit - ridiculous triggers, dont follow if u know/like xyz/ are fictionkin with dora the Explorer or whatever.
Its like they are copying their byf's from each other and just replace the personal things. Thats also how their personalities seem to be as well - copied from each other

Byfs just make sense if the blogger posts content potentielly offensive/nsfw/disgusting stuff as some kind of warning

I ended up making a BYF page because of this thread. It basically just listed out the kinds of things I post and that I don't want anybody under 18 following me. Though, I can't really do anything if kids see some porn I reblogged.

Like, how does one enforce these draconian rules? Are they just using the honor system? All they can do is throw a temper tantrum and block somebody if they don't like them.

IDK, man. Teens are weird.

And here I was thinking that having a lot of followers was the whole point.

The more you know, I suppose.

They do but in the sense of having a pulpit that can be preached to.

They want as many followers as possible whose views fall in line with their own, and if they can't convert someone, they're useless.

A popular thing I've seen around Tumblr is the ever-annoying "read before following" or "don't follow me if" pages on people's blogs. Generally, these are used only by self-diagnosed mentally ill weirdgender otherkin who get triggered if certain kinds of people follow them (and what's so sad is the shocking amount of these people who AREN'T minors). If you've been fortunate enough to never have seen one of these, they basically consist of an extensive list of criteria you have to meet in order to be worthy of following said user (I don't see why anyone would WANT to follow them, but to each their own).

I love snooping around the site, trying to discover the strangest and funniest ones. Here are some of my favorites that I've recently stumbled upon:

^ I found this one as a post instead of a page. Check out those tags *sigh*
What these people don't seem to get, is that if you're on mobile, you CAN'T view these pages in the app. Any extra pages on anyone's profile can't be accessed unless in a browser. They get so fucking butthurt if you so much as slightly diverge from any of their criteria listed on a page half of the users can't even see...
I, like any normal person, was baffled by the "no pronouns" thing, so I clicked their link, which took me to this post:

Seriously, what's wrong with plain ol' "it?" I don't feel like these kinds of people are worthy of "they."

^The first bullet point is so badly worded, that at first I thought it meant someone can follow them if given the permission to exist as a cis straight white boy.

With this one, the title, subtitle, and description are "manipulative" enough for me to just go ahead and click "Close Tab" and not even worry to read it. But, I'm an easily entertained shit, so I clicked the link.

"If you follow me, yOU BETTER TELL ME WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU STAND FOR."

With this one, the description kills me more than the boring rbf:

"Diagnosed with these illnesses, but that's not edgy enough."
And again, with the age thing...Tumblr hates age differences...

I kinda wish I had started screencapping these things earlier. I've come across some pretty strange people in my time on that hellhole. Anyway, if you have some you'd like to share with us, please do.

Don't these kids realize people don't read these extra pages? They only care the content you put up.

Why do people with a certain first name have to ask to follow?

usually it's the name of someone who "abused" them. it's kind of funny considering a lot of times the names are rare/unique enough that 1) you probably don't have to worry about anyone else who goes by that name following you and 2) if you were really a victim of abuse who wants to avoid their abuser you'd probably realize that stating their name in your goddamn about makes it that much easier for them to find you.

Now, I don't know how tumblr works, so I may be wrong, but: Doesn't Tumblr not even TELL you who is following you? It just gives you a number, I believe, so all of these rules are hilariously unenforceable, though, that's probably why these people also have the "SEND ME A MESSAGE BEFORE YOU FOLLOW ME" so they know exactly who they have to keep a eye on.

Never mind, I've been corrected.

No, can totally check your follower list and see the urls of the blogs following you. Blocking someone also forces an unfollow now, though for a long time it didn't.

The 'safety' of a BYF/Do-Not-Follow-If concept is still dumb with more 'security' holes than a sieve, though.

No, you can see the usernames of the people who follow you. Edit: l8.

Now I really want to make a DNF page banning all otherkin or mentally ill people and watch the ensuing shitshow. Is it still weening if it's not targeting a specific person?
