I did not realise I liked this and then one day I was happily watching a 700MB movie I downloaded in 2009 on a 1/12th of my monitor and was happy.

MPC have always done that by default. "Hey kids (I'm pretending to be Kurt Eichenwald here) we found your grandpa's porn collection! *stares at a tiny 156x120 mpg on a 4k screen*"

VLC does some things that other players can't but I still hate it as much as I hate WMV.
