Best of This is How You Don't Play's - What is the best TIHYDPs?

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
David Davidson did a TIHYDP of the Silent Hill 2 playthrough on hard, he posted it last month. It's about 3 hours long, and it drags a bit at the end (thanks in no small part to Phil getting his ass handed to him by the bosses), but I enjoyed it. It's a throwback to when TIHYDPs were fun and filled with salt.

There only so much you can do at polishing turds.

Old phil was shit but he spoke his mind. Now he's a creepy old man falling asleep while playing, reading his phone, everything is a mixed bad and won't take a stance on anything, he's incredibly boring.

The most enjoyement I get is when he guilt trips his cult for money.

The oblivion video is definitely my favorite, it has all the DPSisms: constantly whining about the game, burping/snorting every 30 seconds into the mic, his keyboard "glitched" and he desperately tries to fix it while whining, doesn't figure out lock picking until 8 hours of play time, somehow is only level 3 after 10 hours of playtime, he never figures out how to ride the horse (I believe you have to go straight then you can turn but he tries to turn without going first and gives up, claims it's "bugged").

That's a fairly well known Bugthesda feature. Of course Phil plays these games without at least using the unofficial patches by arthmoor and co that fix literally thousands of bugs in Oblivion.

The horse? Thats actually a real bug in the console pc version. It happens when you put the armor on it.

He did have armor on it but he was on pc, I don't know if it was really glitched or not but usually I just chalk it up to DSP being slow

Although he managed it by accident, isn't levelling up in Oblivion a bit pointless since all enemies scale with the player?

Yea, you are right. But it was still a bug or glitch. Although I can totally see him not knowing how to control it, im pretty sure it was a bug.

Yes you're right, I installed oblivion to check and the vanilla horse will turn when you press left and right.

They do scale, but there are benefits to leveling up besides just getting health/combat resources boosted. Been a while since i last cracked into it, but I'm pretty sure boosting your base stats boost skills associated with them which unlocks more advanced magic/combat techs/special things.

That and it's an RPG and leveling just makes you feel accomplished.

In Oblivion, you only level up after sleeping. From what I've seen there are only a couple quests that require you to sleep. You can pretty much beat the game at level 3. The enemies scale to your level so there is no real penalty to being low level. It's actually easier to defeat low level enemies using the end game weapons than if you were level 50 fighting level 50 enemies with the same gear. Yeah your health gets boosted, but it's a moot point when the enemies deal minimal damage.

The first time I played through, I didn't quite understand the leveling system, but I made it through ok. The next time, I did a bit of research to figure out just how it all worked, and played through again to have a bit "easier" albeit more fun game.

Then I fucked with custom spells and just wrecked shit left and right.

I love moments where Phil puts his idiocy out on full display by completely defying common sense. The beginning of his Subnautica stream is a good one that stuck out to me. At the very beginning of the game you’re knocked out after evacuating into an escape pod, and wake up to said pod on fire with a nearby fire extinguisher that you fall past as your forced out of the cockpit. Despite being fully focused on the screen at the time Phil completely misses the extinguisher, and decides to just ditch the burning pod... by running through the fire to the exit. It never ceases to amaze me how idiotic this guy is because I’ve seen dozens of playthroughs of this game, and Phil is the only guy who thought it was a better idea to run through the fire to the exit than to try and put it out. I wish Unknown Worlds actually coded that fire to kill since it would’ve led to Phil hilariously and pathetically dying before he even left his escape pod.

Unfortunately that’s the only good part of his Subnautica playthrough since the rest of it is just chat telling him where to go, and Phil actively avoiding immersion because he doesn’t want to get spooked by a big fish. Not to mention playing on an inferior console port that causes the game to look and run poorly.

Have to admit, I only fully played through once and ended around level 7, having also never figured out the lockpicking mechanics.

This one is ok. Phil is typical clueless self, but at least it's well made.

What's the angriest Phil has ever gotten at a game he was playing? Been watching him fail at old school platformers and for the most part he laughs off his mistakes. I want to see him legit, 1000% mad.
The trouble with Phil (from an entertainment standpoint) is that he only gets mad for a second or two before the mental gymnastics kick in. Here's a good example. You can tell he's mad when he slams the controller (seriously my favorite slam of all time) but then he immediately starts ranting as a defence mechanism, slowly cooling off into a pissy fit. I don''t think he's ever been to Mike Matei levels of screeching rage.

Yeah, he just doesn't seem to have the testosterone for that. Also, as much as he hates losing (at anything really), he seems way more bothered by being made fun of for it (and a lot of other things).

I've learned to enjoy it when he looks and sounds really defeated rather than salty, like when Ludwig the Accursed made him give up.

When it comes to leveling in Oblivion, there are a crapload of hidden stats to have into account that you do not see. For example, every 10 points in luck affect all your skills, improving them by 1 point as well as increasing random loot in chests (usually by 10% of their value). Strength, aside from you doing more damage with everything melee based, increases you total equipload. Probably the 2 more important stats to level up are Endurance and Willpower. Not because of their base improvements, but because they increase your endurance recovery speed, magicka recovery speed and your chances of resisting negative effects like poison and magic.

There are a crapload of guides in order to min-max stats because they key to leveling up in oblivion is to focus in 2 stats per level, meaning you have to focus on leveling skills related to certain stat. For example, you want to boost your strength to the max leveling up allows, which is +5, you have to increase strength related skills (Block, blade, blunt, heavy armor...) by 10 during your leveling up process. Then you go for another stat and the last stat point you dump it into luck. By using this formula, you can become quite damn powerful even if enemies scale to your level. Not as powerful as in Morrowind, but still quite powerful.

Also, one of my fav things that i've seen lately have been Phil's nemesis. Namely Ludwig, Champion Gundyr and the last addition to the list that is Katsuie Shibata in Nioh 2 (scored 40 deaths, pretty decent). I loved how Phil raged like a tard against Shibata, specially because when Phil fought against him he was nerfed 4 times already. If he fought him in the base game, he would have gotten terribly curbstomped.

Date Masamune in Nioh 1's DLC also gave him 40+ deaths. If I remember correctly he killed Philburt the same amount of times as Ludwig did the first time he played Bloodborne, and just like Bloodborne based Date Masamune made him ragequit. Too easy...
However, at least he had more dignity after he ragequit because of Date Masamune, Ludwig almost made him burst into tears when he talked about how he quit the game because based Ludwig kept slapping him around like a Tijuana crackwhore.
