Better Call Saul

I guess it goes without saying the Howard plot will backfire, but I still want my man Hamlin to walk away unscathed. I feel like Jimmy and Kim will still get what they want and fuck him over, but it'll be done in such a way that doing it exposes and ruins them.

We know he buys the book as it was in the FBI/Police raid of Saul's house in one of the cardboard boxes. This is kind of a retcon of BB where Saul says "he knows a guy who knows a guy". Turns out that Saul is that guy. Sure you can write it off as him protecting himself but this seems like a change in how he was operating in BB. We already know that they retconned a lot of the influence Kim had on him so this is no surprise that they are just embracing it.
fwiw "knows a guy who knows a guy" is more colloquial slang terminology for "I know things I won't necessarily elaborate on".

I feel like they're jumping the shark a bit with him
The Lalo of previous seasons wouldn’t just wander into Germany and do what he’s doing. It was a big stretch with Margarethe Ziegler last episode, it’s just a bad subplot now with Casper. So let’s say he finds out it’s supposed to be an underground drug lab, then what? The Salamancas already suspect Fring is doing his own thing. If they wanted to take Fring out, there’d be other ways. Feels like a waste of a strong character.

I think Kim is done by mid-season finale and the back half deals with the effect on Jimmy.

It's either that, or she's there until the finale episode. I don't see how it can be anything else.

The German worker, Casper, has horror movie levels of retardation.
Wasn't that guy a retard even before now though? It was pretty impressive he got the drop on Lalo, pretty unimpressive what he did with it.
This also shows the weak writing in that Jimmy plans his 'Gene' escape with the tin of diamonds....yet left his blackbook of underworld contacts behind which is worth likely six or seven figures. He could have sold that book to the vacuum man and escaped with diamonds and money to spare.
And immediately get killed by people who no longer have his confidentiality to depend on. I doubt the Salamancas were the only dangerous clients he had.

How do you think he got the book? By purchasing it from someone who did not keep things entirely confidential. You think they killed the veterinarian for selling the book to Jimmy? Clearly the underworld does not care who has the book in the BCS universe. They would certainly be upset at someone who left the book in their house for the police to take though more than someone who sold it to another criminal. This is just poor writing. But BB/BCS fans are zombies at this point.

It was interesting that he wasn't in this promo, which does make me think something might potentially happen to Hamlin. I guess they might've kept him out to avoid spoilers but for me it just confirms SOMETHING happens that his reputation is tarnished and/or quit law, highly doubt he's killed but could be. Howards got a man tailing Jimmy and Mike is also tailing Jimmy, so it's like tailception. I could see that ending badly.

Edit: can someone give me a recap of yesterdays episode? - I'm at work and can't watch it.

-Lil' Kim got busted for shoplifting and her mum is revealed to be a bigger crook than that.
-Howard is insufferable to his soon to be ex-wife, clearly she's fucked off with him and he keeps pushing.
-Clifford Maine offered Kim an opportunity with a major law conference, she's upset it's going to happen on Howard's D-Day, and Jimmy pushes her to focus on the law conference.
-Jimmy is organising a fake set of blackmail pics with a double of the judge and gets Fran to pose as the daughter of one of the Sandpiper residents to get a code for the conference call at HHM.
- Mike has his family under surveillance and is staying away for their safety.
-Lalo's rampaging around Germany now. He chops off Caspar's foot with an axe trying to find out what Gus is doing.
-Kim's on her way to the conference on D-Day when Jimmy calls her freaking out because while he was buying a bottle of the cursed tequila, he ran into the real judge, who has a broken arm. Kim does a U-turn and races back to Albuquerque.

Cheers for the in-depth rundown. Appreciate that my man.

About to kickback and watch the episode, I hope the stuff with Lalo picks up a little more. I’m moderately bored of him kinda just flopping his way around Germany and sweet talking people. Sounds like some much needed action since episode 3.

It is pretty cool Gus directed this episode, how does it compare to the previous? I found the tone of the episode Kim directed to seem a little “off” if that makes sense! Like it’s good, but it felt different stylistically.

I watched the episode and didn't know half of this.

No problem sir, although it should be noted that Fran posed as the DAUGHTER of a Sandpiper resident, sorry about that, I hadn't had my morning brew yet.

I watched the episode and didn't know half of this.
I also forgot to mention that the vet said 'Fuck it all, I just wanna look after animals' and is hinted to be the source of Jimmy's little black book.

I think the mid season finale will be the fate of Howard. Kim's fate won't be until one of the final episodes. She is a major character and will be THE factor on how Jimmy/ Saul reacts at the end.
Kim making the U turn is setting up Her endgame for lack of a better term.

Gus is protected by Bolsa and Eladio who, though do not like him, view him as a better asset than the Salamancas. That they know he's up to something doesnt matter, they need to prove it to the higher ups who look on him more favorably than them. Keep in mind that up until Bolsa is killed, both he and Eladio consider Gus nothing more than a homo bitch who bends the knee and pays what he's owed. Neither believe for a second Hector and Lalo are justified in their more overt dislike for the higher earner, so Lalo needs to show they were right to dislike and not trust him before they're "allowed" to do anything to him.

REGARDLESS I also am not feeling the Germany shit and hope it's wrapped up pronto.

I think you're probably right, but I also think that this makes this show way less interesting.

We were promised the story of how Jimmy became Saul, but it's felt more like the Jimmy & Kimmy Show for a while now. Not that I'm necessarily complaining about that, I've genuinely enjoyed her and she's the heart of the show, but at the same time I don't know how it's going to make for a satisfying finale that really ties the bow on how Jimmy became Saul with her being so involved in everything.

That's why I'm thinking that she oversteps in the season finale and she ends up killed, or in jail, or has a dumb accident, or whatever, and then Jimmy has to deal with all of that shit, set himself up on his own, and deal revenge to those who wronged kim. Basically really going over the line from a criminal lawyer to a criminal lawyer.

I don’t think Gilligan is going to be able to get rid of Kim until the very end due to network pressure. Recall that he wanted to kill off Skyler White in the middle of season five but couldn’t due to network pressure. Gilligan has done a great job navigating through the woke minefields with BCS but that will all go out the window if Kim ends up going away at this midseason point. The final or penultimate episode is much more likely, however that plays out.

I wonder if the flashback to Kid Kim was to establish that she's always managed to get away with things. If you're on a high streak of wrapping people around your fingers and then you seriously fuck up, your plans fall through and you're exposed, how will she handle it?

I will say it again, the pacing this season has been very off, and now it's starting to get way too convoluted/coincidental, Lalo should have died from that German guy axing him in the back. Howard's downfall should be much more straightforwar, and the whole Lalo/Gus plot is way too out there to really believe.
