Better Call Saul

This season is going to be what the show should've been.
Not to rag on the last seasons, they were a comfy slow build up to this one.

Howard is one of the best things about the show. He started off as almost our level 1 boss. The bad guy to start things off. But he was just a pawn in chuck's game of 4D hungry hungry hippos, most of the asshole moves Howard pulled were due to chuck pulling strings.

It's one of my favorite things about him that he started out as a typecast douchebag, and you thought he was a terrible person, and then he turned out to be not that bad a guy at all. He wasn't a bad person, he was just in a bad place. And then it turned out Chuck was actually who fucked Jimmy.

He sort of reminds me of Hank in a way. Yet another guy introduced as an asshole, who turned out to be maybe the only real hero of the show.

Bob Odenkirk has also been amazing in this. I was somewhat skeptical he could carry an entire show by himself. As much as I loved him as a comic actor in Mr. Show and everything he's done since, it's really hard to live up to a show like Breaking Bad. He's more or less done it, though.

But Jonathan Banks's performance describing the death of his son is one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever watched.

I have been jonesing so fucking hard for the return of this show.

It's a testament to the talent of the writers that they took a few tertiary characters from one of the greatest shows of all time and managed to mine some great drama to show how they got to where we first met them, already compromised, and to do it so compellingly. I love The Sopranos, but I doubt they'd be as successful as the BCS team if they made a spinoff about Artie Bucco and his hot wife.

Hank was a piece of shit crooked cop. He was so obsessed with how other people who broke the law needed to pay, but he was fine breaking it himself (Remember the cuban cigar scene?). He just wanted to show off as a macho man, but really he was just an angry asshole.

He was happy to torment other people for his own amusement, but when he was bested by Jesse and Walter he got so angry that he nearly beat Jesse to death. He should have been kicked off the force and thrown in prison for that.

Then, he gets injured by the twins, and is a total dickbag to his wife (And it's the one time she doesn't deserve it). He just stews in his own pity party. Alone this might be understandable, but it's just another piece of a pattern of being a selfish dickhead.

Next, when he finds out Walt is Heisenberg, again he gets so angry about it. He seems to have a level of respect for other criminals, but he's so offended that this nerdy guy he was so sure he was better than totally outsmarted him he again made it personal. He attacked Walt, at that point walt could have showed up at the police station with his black eye and reported Hank, and he would have been fired since he was already off the reservation, so he endangered the investigation that was supposedly so important to him.

Finally, he's more worried about his ego than safety, and he wants to go arrest Walt, without informing the department, so at least he can salve his embarrassment by showing up with the perp in cuffs. Doing so, he gets himself and his partner killed. He was also willing to get Jesse killed.

He didn't do any of this because he felt it was the right thing to do. It was all personal, about a pathetic little man trying to show the world what a big shot he was. In some ways, it parallels Walt's story. But at least Walt started with semi-noble goals, Hank was a shithead from day 1.

The thing is in Breaking Bad you learn how much of a hypocrite a moral preacher can be.

Walter preaches about cooking meth to keep his family afloat financially, yet he's going to cook for the cartel and make himself into an LOLCow by making lame excuses for his behavior.

Skyler preaches about being an honest spouse, smokes during pregnancy and cheats out of spite.

Jimmy/Saul pretends to be "for the people" even though, as depicted in Season 3, he could give a shit about the elderly given he exploits their fragile relationships for monetary gain.

Mike is the exact opposite of a moral hypocrite, but he isn't as careful as he leads himself on to be.

Gus obviously paints himself to be a patriot who cares about first responders.

Pinkman wants to act like he's wised up over the course of a year but bends the knee to cowardice and submits himself to smarter individuals.

Yo too bad I'm stuck with Netflix, that waits until next fucking year to air a season.
Get yourself an Android box and a VPN. You'll have to wait the next day for a new episode (unless you watch it live and then there's a bit of buffering) but you don't have to wait a year and you can find old episodes of old shows, movies both new releases and classics, indie, box office trash and just about anything you want.

Things are starting to seriously aggravate Gene, he's exiting taxis prematurely and ducking to avoid attention.

Poor Howard, he was a total bro in this episode, and Jimmy's final line to him really was brutal. Well done Patrick Fabian!
Mike is still the most interesting character in the show. Just watching him dick around in the warehouse was pure liquid joy.
Nacho's being watched, is it Gus, or maybe one of the rival families?
Kim knows Jimmy's up to something.

Predictions: Dead Nacho. Alienated Kim after she finds out Jimmy's involvement, Despondent, possibly alcoholic and suicidal Howard.

I know it goes against the tone of this show and Breaking Bad, but I just wanna see (If she survives of course) Kim in the present day at the Cinnabon Jimmy is managing. And Jimmy can't interact with her or say anything to her because then he'd have to worry about being found out.
