(Bi)github BS and other womyn in tech stupidity

As some of you might know, GitHub is an online repository for open source code projects. It's meant for collaborative debugging and code optimization.

Recently, there have been some changes, including changing it from a meritocracy (where one is judged by their contributions) to a diverse and accepting place where someone is banned for posting an eggplant. Note the blatant personal attacks in the latter thread.

Most women in tech are great and contribute a lot. The "women in tech" movement is fundamentally flawed because it addresses non-existant problems.

I'm interested in this because I enjoy programming in Python.

I remember seeing something waybackwhen on KotakuInAction, I think? Where some guy offered a jokey overlay for a programming language that got some people triggered because, I dunno, making jokes they don't like is bad?

I wish I could remember any more than that.

Look up "C Plus Equality".
Not exactly up there with INTERCAL in the joke languages hall of fame, but there you have it.

Most of the "women in tech" controversies these days are just massive, massive storms in teacup. (We've had women in IT since goddamn Ada Lovelace. Deal with it already.)

Like this one:
Look up "C Plus Equality".
Anyone with any small bits of rationality in their heads took a look at that and said "my goodness golly oh mighty, that's the most gigantic pile of weapons-grade Unfunny I've seen this decade. I shall leave this project my vilest quiet scorn I can muster and then move the fuck on."
...
Because if you want to defend freedom of expression, this is probably not the hill you want to die on. Trust me. Just look at it.

Anyone have any encounters with SJWs involving tech or code?

I think GirlsDoCode is a good thing, because even with the huge population of female programmers, it gets the next generation of coders into the hobby.

Do you mean DICSS (Directly injected CSS)? Github actually had a team meeting to discuss if it was offensive enough to be removed.

Anyone else notice how it's the "geeky" interests that have been attracting all these wannabe activists recently? They seem to be most vocal when it comes to video games, comic books, sci-fi/fantasy fiction and movies, and now programming. I mean, it's not like geek culture is the only one out there that's stereotypically dominated by cishet white dudes (and therefore in want of "diversity").

There was a particularly funny parody of the 'womyn in tech' folk called ToleranUX by the 'Feminist Software Foundation' (lol)

Funnily enough, its github repo got canned.
I mean, you try to make a system for them and they complain. There's no victory to be had here

Here's a good quote from their gitlab page:
As did GitHub remove the problematic "Meritocracy" rug from their office, so now do we literally pull the rug from under the tyrannical and Patriarchal feet of Linus Torvalds. In light of the continued reign of Linus Torvalds as the immature, unprofessional, quick-to-anger, non-inclusive, white, cisgendered and male project leader dictator of the (in)famous Linux kernel, the Feminist Software Foundation has forked where no feminist has forked and reclaimed the software bits to all people.
If you've used a *nix system before or just like tech, I'd suggest reading their page for a laugh. https://gitlab.com/femsf/toleranux

Yes, I have. None of them on the internet but on real life and those girls weren't as obnoxious, probably because real life stares are way more intimidating.
From personal experience; I've seen that the persons (male, female, trans, mayo or whatever) who complain the most about "patriarchy" in tech, are the most ignorant and generally bad at whatever thing they are complaining about. My code isn't good?, MALES DON'T UNDERSTAND MY CODING!, my program won't work?, PATRIARCHY WANTS TO CONTROL MY PRUFESSION!, someone managed to do something I couldn't?, HE MUST HAVE CHEATED!. Luckily, research centers (at least the ones I know), have more common sense than political correctness and simply ignore those people and move on.

Geek culture is the one with a fetish for egalitarianism and being inclusive of everyone, so doesn't just automatically laugh at these fucks.

Unfortunately, they've shown themselves to be basically worthless parasites who need to be driven out of any community you want to keep existing.

Slight correction: Geek culture is egalitarian in membership, but a meritocracy in practice: It accepts everyone, but the more skill you show, the higher your regard.

The rest holds true, with the first value being pushed over the second so badly by SJWs these assholes truly are worthless.
