(Bi)github BS and other womyn in tech stupidity

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Geek culture is the one with a fetish for egalitarianism and being inclusive of everyone, so doesn't just automatically laugh at these fucks.
I have seen it claimed that geek culture is relatively liberal, at least on social issues. So maybe the SJWs are taking advantage of this?

It's not so much liberal as tolerant of a diversity of opinion and membership. I suppose it approaches liberalism in its classical sense more than it does being left wing or anything, because there is also a strong core of libertarian or even outright conservative tendencies among geeks.

In general, you can have people working together toward a common goal even though some of them are socialists, anarchists, or any offbeat political tendency, so long as they all view it as a project worth pursuing and have a general agreement on what needs to be done to make it happen.

SJWs don't want that, though. They want everything that isn't in full compliance with them driven out of everything.

Slight correction: Geek culture is egalitarian in membership, but a meritocracy in practice: It accepts everyone, but the more skill you show, the higher your regard.

Yes, I'm using egalitarian in a loose sense, representing the moral equality of opportunity rather than a view that all people are actually identical in merit.

So geeks wouldn't generally just look at someone, see the have a tri-color mohawk and a safety pin through the nose and then conclude they don't know what they're doing. They'd look at their code and if it was good, they'd use it.

Anyone else notice how it's the "geeky" interests that have been attracting all these wannabe activists recently? They seem to be most vocal when it comes to video games, comic books, sci-fi/fantasy fiction and movies, and now programming. I mean, it's not like geek culture is the only one out there that's stereotypically dominated by cishet white dudes (and therefore in want of "diversity").

Probably because you're more likely to get socked in the face for bringing feminism into football and MMA than you are in programming.

Geek Feminism Wiki is a big culprit in most of this stuff. It also has a timeline of incidents which are fucking hilarious in the same way as a Christian fundamentalist reviewer expressing outrage over things like the South Park movie. Here are a few highlights:

http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Zipper_incident
http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Ubuntu_Code_of_Conduct_incident (this is the joke that set that whole thing off)
http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Open_Source_Boob_Project
http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Linux_Symposium_2008_closing_talk
http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Fat_Princess
http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Sexist_joke_in_Diggnation_Podcast (even has a trigger warning)
http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Geeklist_founders_react_badly_to_reporting_sexism

They're a big part of the SJWs pushing "codes of conduct" into open source projects that often include racist/sexist double standards if they can get away with it.

I spent more time than I'd like in the child care industry, which has an absurd lack of diversity in gender. Well over 95% of the workforce is female, and what males they do have almost never advance to higher positions.

Does this bother them? No, they fucking REVEL in it. No one's pushing for more diversity, it's a giant sorority, albeit one that smells like applesauce and industrial cleanser.

Sounds like hell. I've had only one job where women were the majority, mostly I've been outnumbered 10-1 or more, and it was the bitchiest, whiniest group of women forming cliques I had dealt with since high school.

Why can't codes of conduct just say don't be a dick
There are an alarming number of people who either have no idea what that means, or are absolutely dead set on using A Particular Type of Logic and Reason to demonstrate that they're not, in fact, dicks.
Source: Have read many threads on the lolcow board.
Because the overwhelming majority of SJWs would rather it read as "Don't possess a dick".
Why, yes, "don't be a dick" is a problematic phrase. Should be "don't be an asshole", because that's something everyone has, regardless of gender. [/extremely old joke in feminist circles]
