Article Subtitle: The WikiLeaks founder has been held in London as he has battled extradition to the United States on charges related to his publication of classified documents.

Article:

President Biden said on Wednesday that the United States was considering dropping its prosecution of Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder who has been jailed in London for years while fighting extradition to face U.S. charges related to his publication of classified documents.

Mr. Biden made the comment on the case of the embattled publisher, who is being detained in a high-security prison, in response to a question about a request from Mr. Assange’s home country of Australia that he be allowed to return there.

“We’re considering it,” Mr. Biden said at the White House, where he was hosting Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan.

Mr. Assange has been jailed for nearly five years after being indicted by the United States with 18 counts of violating the Espionage Act for publishing thousands of documents detailing secret military operations and diplomatic intelligence, as well as revelations about the civilian death tolls in the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

His case has sustained international attention and condemnation from First Amendment rights groups.

Mr. Assange has fought off U.S. efforts to extradite him. The charges could amount to a sentence of up to 175 years in prison, although U.S. lawyers have said that he was more likely to be sentenced to four to six years.

In February, Australia’s parliament passed a motion calling for Mr. Assange’s release, and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he had discussed the matter in a meeting last fall with Mr. Biden.

In backing the motion, Mr. Albanese told the Australian parliament “it is appropriate for us to put our very strong view that those countries need to take into account the need for this to be concluded.”

Last month, the High Court in London ruled that Mr. Assange could not be immediately extradited to the United States until certain conditions were met.

The court gave the United States three weeks “to give satisfactory assurances” that Mr. Assange “is permitted to rely on the First Amendment to the United States Constitution (which protects free speech), that he is not prejudiced at trial (including sentence) by reason of his nationality, that he is afforded the same First Amendment protections as a United States citizen and that the death penalty is not imposed.”

I'm 90% sure Assange was killed years ago. There was supposedly an interview that took place in an embassy with Assange that was released on the RT channel on youtube (I think around 2016) that has since been scrubbed completely off of the internet that showcased a VERY sophisticated deep fake. Remember, this was way before deepfakes and AI were as mainstream as they are today. A mistake was caught by a few detailed autists where there was some "morphing" around the neck/tie area, as well as a slightly morphed eye when frames were slowed down to fractions of second.

It's an election year. They're going to "consider" and "explore" all the thing people have been demanding for years. I'm surprised they haven't brought up legalizing weed.

Way ahead of you lol.

Didnt even realise Assange was an Australian citizen.
what a fucking poor showing the Australian Parliament hasn't demanded the return of one of its citizen journalists earlier; but we are all aware that Australia is essentially a vassal state of the US anyhow.

If they do return him though I expect he will probably be disappeared to Pine Gap or something

Wait people are still on this one? Dude he was pulled out of the fucking embassy kicking and screaming and everyone had it on camera, he's alive.

Why is anyone making a news article about an answer Biden ad-libbed while walking down the hall with a Japanese diplomat? I wouldn't even consider "We're considering it" confirmed until some other government spokesperson corroborates it.

Look at the actual clip in question:
Does this sound like a man who actually knows whether the government he's nominally running is considering anything?

Every single Australian government in my life time have been a bunch of dick licking pussy faggots who all went to private school with eachother and who are all in their nanny-state jobs to make themselves insane amounts of money and to take away rights and privileges from the filth-ridden common folk.

Assange should have been freed a long time ago. They’re killing him slowly via abuse and neglect. The process is the punishment.
Snowdon is technically guilty yes but he still did what’s probably a moral thing. What he exposed was malign.
If we had a few more assanges and a lot less Bidens the world would be a little better

I'm glad this comes back up every once in a while so it can remind me how much I fucking hate the Australian government. Not one of the unprincipled fucking cowards even mentioned him for years and now its "yes please mr Biden sir we would really welcome it if you'd consider thinking about the possibility of maybe letting him go".
Give me hats if you will, idc. Nothing radicalises me against our government more than Assange. The complete failure of our representatives to say literally fucking anything about one of us being tortured by our "allies" for 12 years, having done nothing illegal or morally wrong, is going to be remembered for a very, very long time.
He's quietly considered a national hero by virtually everyone in Australia at this point. Even the people who were brainwashed by American propaganda have gone the other way after seeing how he's been treated. It will be sad but interesting to see what happens when he dies.

Basically all he did was host the files, I get they’re pissed and they were sensitive or whatever but this is absurd.

On the other hand he’s probably safer in a British prison tbh.

Kill The Australian Government. Behead The Australian Government. Roundhouse kick The Australian Government into the concrete.

The morphing you're talking about was very obvious and the result of a type of cut editors (probably shitty editors) use these days. It morphs between two different pieces of footage and is available in your preferred video editing software.

FTFY.

Also, they're not ever letting Assange go, period. He's only still alive because killing him would end his ordeal.

polls be real down bad if they're actually considering this
You hit the nail on the head.

They want the whole Assange thing to go away, BUT not like Epstein this close to Nov. After all these years, an offer that lets him walk in exchange for him keeping his mouth shut and fading into obscurity probably looks pretty good to Assange right now.

It funny to think the brit who hacked NASA, found spreadsheets talking about "offworld personnel" and was pursued for extradition got off easier than Assange
