The ability to sperg about politics needs to be contained completely to some other site. Every time there's been a high profile ban in the last two years it's been some A&N/A&H poster with no self-control.

100% agree with this. While I think having a site that supports free speech is incredibly important, it doesn't mean you have to talk about everything. IMO, the main goal of the site has always been to discuss idiots on the internet in a relatively light hearted fashion. That isn't to say serious conversations can't sometimes happen, but it's not really the main point of the site. I'd like to think the majority of the users just come here for a laugh. For me, one of the big appeals of the site was the fact that, outside of certain cows where the focus was political, it didn't really matter what you believed because it really wasn't relevant to the discussions at hand. Hell, even with some of the politically focused cows, it still wasn't really about their politics and more about the dumb way they sperged about said politics on twitter. Everyone was also fair game, too. Didn't matter if they were on the left or right or whatever, if they were saying something dumb, we'd gather around and have a laugh. But nowadays, it feels like certain users get too much of an "us vs them" mentality and instead of laughing at one individual person, they act like their whole party/movement or whatever was being mocked and it just turns into a more serious discussion than I think anyone wanted to have. So much so that law enforcement has to get involved.

It wasn't always bad, there were sometimes genuinely informative posts and good discussions, but there's no denying there was a lot of sperging, and I definitely think certain users started getting a little too comfortable with treating the site like it was a super serious discussion group and not a largely comedic site where we laugh at people saying/doing stupid things online.

I'm not saying Null should make another site or anything. I think he's already gone above and beyond to keep this place running as it is. I know there's a lot of doom and gloom and talk about how you can't have serious conversations online without it being censored, but let's be real, that's not exactly true. Sure, it can be hard on places like Twitter/Facebook/whatever else, but there's tons of other, typically smaller, communities where that's a thing. And those places work because more serious topics are typically best with a smaller group who is invested in having those conversations. I imagine that's why Null is giving you free reign to shill them here. I think the people that want those types of conversations will be much happier having them on a private discord or whatever with like minded people who also want to talk about heavier topics. And we'll be happy here talking about heavier people and the crazy things they say/do.
