I won't lie, I had lurked the Farms for a little while and joined in earnest after A&H went members-only at this time last year. And while I occasionally peer at cow threads, I gravitated here mainly because, well, to put it bluntly: it's the only real place left on the web that hasn't turned into a horrifyingly censored echo-chamber (Twitter, Reddit, Facebook) or a still-partially-censored false sense of anonymity place like the Chan boards. A lot of posters here are also likewise either jaded and cynical about the last year of Clown World like I am, so I at least feel like I'm not alone as COVID, the 2020 election, and other things beyond my control would drive me to near-despair otherwise. Sappy as it sounds, you guys are keeping me going as things get more insane.

As for what happened, I get it. Fedposting bad, but a lot of people are getting pushed to such an edge faster as the last few weeks of a sham election in the last bastion of freedom of the world have shown. Would I ever do it? No way, I'm not that idiotic.

That said, the decision going forward is up to Null, but FWIW, I like the political discourse here, as shitty as it may get sometimes. Massive shout-outs to @It's HK-47 in particular for being the voice of reason you've been. People may not be interested in politics, but it sure as shit is interested in you/me/us/everyone else as this last year has gone. Ignoring it or trying to put a stop to it isn't the way to go, but that's just the opinion of one relatively new one-year veteran 'tard to KF. You guys do what you must.

Am I a filthy refugee? Yes, but I've listened to Null's podcast for a couple of years now, and I enjoying hearing, and following his trials with this site and the other site he tried to build. It always seems to come back to the same problem these days, if someone doesn't like a website they can spam it with things that draw attention to it and cause major problems for the operator.

The reason I took refuge here is I like having access to the autistic archiving in the political threads, because for the life of me, I would never be able to find certain information that gets posted there, I liked reading the bits on the 3 gorges dam, and seeing the graphs of water levels, and stuff added every so often. All of the archived footage on the summer riots is stuff I would never see on my own. The people who comb twitter and livestreams for clips deserve really hot waifus for that service, and so does Null for keeping the lights on, so we can actually see it. That's why I enjoy those parts of this website, because the places that used to post this kind of information, I would argue, are overran by spam, bots and shills. Obviously I cant prove this definitively, it's just a feeling, but the sheer volume of screeching drowns out any useful information, on the major "quarantine" sites. In 2015 one of those sites was a huge generator and aggregator for election content, it has since been renamed, and is effectively a ghost town now. Everything is just slid.

Do I frequently read the other parts of the website? Do I get enjoyment finding out a very large obese woman has cancer and is going to be in trouble because the chemo won't work for her because she is so large? Not really. Did I laugh at the cobra guy who ate and spilled surstromming on his apartment chair, okay maybe a little. Am I surprised about the in depth analysis on a particular youtubers, most likely botched breast augmentation? Yep. I guess what I am trying to get at is the two sides of the website both address what seem to be taboos, thing's you can't normally talk about.

Will it be sad to see an entire section of this website potentially removed from a result of bad actors? Yes. But since 2015, this seems to be the inevitable consequence in places that allow free speech. It's been a long dusty march these last 5 years, and I feel this site is the end of the line.

I understand moderating the other side of the site must be maddening at times, so it's easier to just punish a large group. This is how we got punished in school, if Rodney fucked up, and hurt some kid with a dodgeball, all the dodgeballs were removed, everyone suffered the consequences, but in real life you know Rodney, you go to school with him, and you can have some social redress after the fact, and make sure Rodney never fucks the group again. In a few weeks the dodgeballs come back, and Rodney is a good boy. On this site the Rodney's come in, shit, and vanish/banned into obscurity leaving the room for the next asshole, the internet is their shield. It's a widespread issue.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with crucifying retards that don't understand the consequences of real threats. Don't waste your time arguing with people who don't have the tens of thousands of hours of experience dealing with online communities. People who run, and moderate these places are professionals, and professionals have standards, they are polite, and efficient, and I think the plan to ban everyone who makes real threats, and those supporting the threats just and reasonable. I know it's infuriating that some people cant see this, but they will never see it your way, but don't waste your mental energy on these vampires. I feel like some of them probably do know this, but they feed off the fact that they can make you infuriated. I hear this in the podcasts sometimes, the frustration, and I always hope you just develop a more "fuck you style" Colonel John Matrix your "wrong" attitude to the pricks. Free speech is a fine thing and part of our responsibility as its adherents is to use it responsibly. Its like a gun, just because you can shoot it at anything you want doesn't mean you should.

I've always believed that free speech is less of a God given right and more of an ideal that society should strive for. You will never quite reach that ideal, it just isn't practical. There has to be some level of flexibility in how we apply our values. I know a lot of people disagree with me but I just don't see how absolute free speech can work for the world we live in.

The same goes for websites. The Farms is a lot more lenient with what it allows but the are limits even here because there has to be. I feel like you have your gun metaphor backwards. It isn't about what you shouldn't say and is about what you can say. You probably shouldn't laugh at fat retards with cancer or make fun of mentally handicapped nutcases but you do because you can, because there isn't a law to say you can't (for now anyway).
