@Null you should make people read a "terms of agreement" page when they join the site which explains our history and warns them against glowposting. You could also add a link to a "shill your site" thread. If things get bad, A&H and political threads could go behind a paywall. The fact that their existence makes people seethe is reason enough to keep them around, imo. Not being forced to comply with the oversensitive snowflakes who permeate every other site is why many of us are here. If the politisperging leaks to other parts of the site, bans could be doled out. Nothing wrong with taking a harder stance on things for the sake of protection.

It's easy to see the backlash and not the comments supporting your position - as humans, we tend to perceive the negative feedback far more than the positive unfortunately. I genuinely believe that most users, at the very least find your position and reaction reasonable, newfag or not.

I am one of the latecomers you mentioned, though the forum has been on my radar every now and again during some "christorically interesting" periods and as you say, I lack the knowledge to properly see how the forum reached the state it has. This does not lessen my appreciation for its existence, because it is one of the few places where disagreement is still permissible and dialogue between opposite positions can take place unimpeded - and that is invaluable in these echo chamber days.

But even those countries which have had the most robust and the most pliant free speech provisions, like the US, have never once allowed you to make genuine or seemingly genuine terroristic or violent threats without rebuke.

The limits of free speech, to any body that matters and to any person that matters, have never stretched into allowing overt threats and calls to violence.
If someone banning you from twitter for saying niggerfaggot makes you think "we should be allowed to threaten to shoot up schools," you are retarded, should get a job, and should probably move out of the basement.

Arguing against "hurting feelings = literal violence" is the whole point of arguing in favor of free speech - the two aren't synonymous.
Arguing that calls to literal violence are the same as hurt feelings is just flipping around the equals sign: "literal violence = hurting feelings"

It really is not hard to grasp that Null is totally fine with the widest interpretation of Free Speech that has ever functionally existed on the planet earth in a meaningful way, and still exists (so long as 230 does) in US jurisdiction. The whole "threatening to shoot up mental wards should be a-ok" side of things hasn't ever been what he's veered towards or wanted to cultivate.

Unless one can be proven to have a means and intentions for an act then him saying it proves nothing. Especially if the talk isn't directed towards a target that can actually feel threatened by the act and a sane observer will count it as regular internet tough guy rather than a credible threat. Yeah it's dumb and far beyond what people will constitute in good taste, but cooperating with this will 100% end up in a situation where any political speech against the dominating group will be shut down since you can always interpret everything as a threat.
