I entirely lost interest in "controversial memes" ever since the Tide Pods trend, planking, irresponsible commentary channels, etc.
How can anyone see any appeal in this anymore?
Oh, yaeh, these are the same people that thought "E" was such a funny meme, because le epic irony (and because "i need peer acceptance, lol").
I really hope i'm not around to see the next """new""" trend.

One of the things I love about the internet is that it never fails to find a new low - I never thought I'd feel nostalgia for teenagers eating Tide pods, but here we are.

I see two possibilities:
  1. Everyone on earth is actually in on the joke for once, and the news journalists that are covering this as if it's a real thing look like idiots.
  2. A non-trivial number of exceptional individuals actually rush area 51.
Before Tide Pods, I would've thought 2 was impossible. But here's to hoping we actually get ten thousand autists Naruto-running at area 51 so I can finally give up on humanity altogether.

You have to compare these things realistically. One requires an expensive plane ticket and day trip to Nevada in the middle of a heat wave and pissing off armed guards; the other requires spending maybe five dollars at the grocery store.

There's some wild fucking articles on here

What the fuck is this Area 51 thing? Some Reddit garbage?
Ok, so basically some guy on Facebook made an event where they would storm Area 51 so that they could "See them Aliens". The rationale for this being that "They can't stop all of us". So far, over 1.8 Million people have signed up to the event. A meme then spawned from that.
Here's the plan btw
853023

Ok, so the Kyles (small children probably) will have at least 10 Monster Energy Drinks on hand to increase their strength by +10, The weebs will Naruto Run to increase their overall speed and stealth. The rock throwers will use their weapon of choice to distract the gunmen at the front gates. The Karens will scream at the people guarding the gates to show them the manager so that they can get in. Then the Anti-Vax kids will come in and infect some if not all of the guards with chicken pox.
Of course, all of these people are cannon fodder, as everyone else will sneak in from the back while the soldiers are distracted.

Let's hope that doesn't happen. But if it does, celebrities like PewDiePie who encouraged them to raid Area 51 - even as a joke - should shoulder the blame.
Last generation it was “Johnny Knoxville should shoulder the blame when some kid sets himself on fire.” Now it’s “This professional video game player is responsible if some sci-fi geeks get detained trying to see aliens”. When did the world get overrun by nerds? And where did all the punks go?

I just love how a bunch of obese Redditor manchildren and teens in terrible physical shape think they can successfully raid it just because they'd be capable of outnumbering the armed guards. Or you know, forget the fact that they have internet. And had weeks to prepare for those idiots to come, basically hiding anything of interest. So in the best case scenario they raid it and find absolutely nothing.

It’s a joke though, nobody’s actually going to try.

I don't know. Its funny seeing people my age be utterly perplexed by an internet meme while actual boomers get it and are sharing a good laugh with the kids.
It's not about getting it, though. It's absurdist, ironic and "epicly tricks le big media". So what? There was so many that did the same before this one, what makes this still funny?
The more things change, the more they stay the same. That's why i hate memes.

It's like when the Yippies threatened to drop LSD into the water supply (it would have broken down too fast to work) or levitate the Pentagon. Except with no real ideological purpose.

I gave you a "Dumb" rating because there's no "Gay" rating.

By "blame" do they mean "thank"? If he somehow actually manages to get a bunch of idiot to kill themselves for a meme they should give him a medal.
