Why is it that Japanese horror manga guys are always so cheerful?
If you've ever been on the set of a horror film, they are amongst the most fun places to be. Everyone gets to scream, thrash around, squirt fake blood everywhere, wear daft costumes, play with chainsaws, it's an absolute riot for everyone involved. The hardest thing to do is not to burst out laughing at how silly everything is.

If you've ever been on the set of a comedy film, they are amongst the least fun places to be. The joke was only funny the first time, but you need 20 takes, and you have to gurn and emote and get your timing right every time. The jokes cease to become jokes, just painfully difficult, scientifically precise pieces of acting with no joy and total concentration from everyone involved, none of whom find the joke funny any more and are still trying to work out how to make everything work. It's hideously stressful and people tend to pick fights with each other because of all the pressure they are under.

I've never written a manga but I imagine a similar principle is in play.

Comedy manga artists tend to be autistic goofballs. Some of them are honest-to-god too absentminded to be depressed, or to keep themselves from talking about how cute they find high school kids. Especially the women.

Examples, double as tax:
