US Blinken Tells Xi Jinping U.S. Does Not Support Taiwanese Independence, After Meeting To Quell Tensions - "Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated the U.S.’ position on its One China policy as he met with China’s leader Xi Jinping Monday, saying it does not support Taiwanese independence and that containing China’s economy was not an American goal."

Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated the U.S.’ position on its One China policy as he met with China’s leader Xi Jinping Monday, saying it does not support Taiwanese independence and that containing China’s economy was not an American goal.

KEY FACTS

Speaking to the press at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, Blinken said all his meetings with top officials in China were constructive and reiterated that competition between the U.S. China should not “veer into conflict.”

Blinken said the U.S. held a “One China” policy and does not support Taiwanese independence, but is concerned about China’s “provocative actions” along the Taiwan Strait.

On the issue of sanctions, Blinken told Chinese officials the U.S. was not attempting to “contain” China’s economic growth, but is trying to guard “specific technologies” critical to national security.

Xi told Blinken during the meeting he hoped the U.S. would adopt a “rational and pragmatic attitude” that would “stabilize and improve Sino-U.S. relations,” according to a statement from China’s foreign ministry.

Without mentioning exact details, Xi also noted that during Blinken’s visit, both countries have “made progress and reached agreement on some specific issues,” according to a readout issued by the U.S. State Department.

Blinken’s meeting with Xi took place after two other high-level meetings with China’s foreign minister Qin Gang and top diplomat Wang Yi.

CRUCIAL QUOTE

Following Blinken’s meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Sunday, the state department issued a statement saying the talks were “candid, substantive, and constructive.” The statement added: “The Secretary emphasized the importance of diplomacy and maintaining open channels of communication across the full range of issues to reduce the risk of misperception and miscalculation.”

CONTRA

Wang appeared to blame Washington for the bilateral tensions in a statement Monday, saying it was now necessary to choose between “dialogue or confrontation, cooperation or conflict.” He urged the U.S. to stop “hyping up” theories that painted China as a threat and asked Washington to "truly adhere" to the One China principle and stop supporting the Taiwan independence movement. The U.S. State Department simply responded that the meeting between Blinken and Wang was “candid and productive.”

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

President Joe Biden told reporters on Saturday that he was hoping that “over the next several months I’ll be meeting Xi again.” He said he intends to talk about “legitimate differences we have but also…areas we can get along.” In a press conference on Monday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said she had no details to offer on if any meeting between the two leaders over the coming months.

KEY BACKGROUND

Ties between China and the U.S. have fallen to their lowest point in decades over a multitude of geopolitical issues. Tensions between the two sides rose sharply earlier this year after the U.S. military shot down a Chinese surveillance balloon after it flew across the U.S. mainland. The tensions further worsened after Blinken met with Wang at a security conference in Munich and accused Beijing of planning to provide lethal aid to Russia to support its ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Blinken said he told Wang that from Washington’s point of view, “this would be a serious problem.”

Is this real Forbes or some dumb blog, before I link it to people and scare them?
If you want an official statement:
The Secretary underscored the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and reiterated there has been no change to the U.S. one China policy, based on the Taiwan Relations Act, the three Joint Communiques, and the Six Assurances.

This has to be a charade. The USA can't just roll over with the Yuan becoming another, or the, reserve currency.

Its just more feckless diplomacy by the US State Department which is par for the course. They are very, VERY good at telling whoever they are talking too what they want to hear. But what the actual US policy will be in the event of the discussed scenario is never made clear because even the US doesn't know what it will be until after it happens. The Problem with America is its a centralized empire with a decentralized power structure, and all the parts of that decentralized system are more focused on fighting each other for control of the big red button then they are focused on things outside that domestic struggle.

Which means Biden could tell China, sure, fine, invade Taiwan, who cares man! And then next year someone else is elected and an entirely new policy is implemented where the US will instead station tactical nukes in Taiwan. It drives our allies crazy in the best of times and keeps our enemies guessing, which can be a plus sometimes, but in the case of war deterrence there really can be no ambiguity. US policy should be "there is one china, but peaceful reunification is the only method we will accept".

Which is not hard. That's been our policy for the last half century.

The body language in their handshake photo-op, lmfao.
That picture. Wow, great display of confidence and strenght there Blinken.
Does not look like a scared little animal at all when the master is angry you shat on the carpet.

Now tell me, what actually happened. Xi laughed at you when you wanted to talk about tranny rights in China and why the Chineese do not want to watch movies with extra diversity?

This is absolutely pathetic. The Republic of China has been one of our main regional allies since WWII, and now they all-but declared that the United States will let them die just to please our chief geopolitical enemy. Where's all the conviction and aid that we can somehow muster for Ukraine when you need it for an actual long-term ally?

Well either this is a case of the left hand not telling the right hand what its up to due to multiple actors within the US government being compromised Chinese agents or the United States as a whole plans to bend over and tell China its ass is plump and ready for fucking.

Betting on the latter personally.

US has never been able to build long-term relations outside of the anglosphere.
US has been able to force long-term relations due to its might and the lack of alternative power-centres, but that is not the same as forming long-term relationships out of common goals or understanding.

Now Biden has pissed away a hundred years of US diplomacy and bridgebuilding and there is now a viable alternative to the US as a political hub and power centre.
What did you expect would happen?

Right now I expect thin pretext to have a hissy fit over China playing peacemaker in the mid east and getting Aramco to accept Yuan.

What I keep wondering is when someone at the top with enough brain cells to smirk when shitting their pants might realize we fucked up and do something about it.

Wait I thought Xi wasn't the president, as he thought the title was too low for him? The CCP is very fluid with titles, with leaders sometimes calling themselves premiers, presidents, directors, as they see fit. Titles don't carry over between terms, and even sometimes within terms

Also on the NA show Curry mentioned that Newland is gunning for his seat. I suspect that will shake up a lot of this dick sucking, she's clearly a domme.
