I think this has to do with cover, I've had this happen sometimes with medium range units (so pistols, assault rifles and grenade launchers) where they can go ahead of a tank if the tank is a shotgunner or has a ballistic shield. The latter never take cover so they always engage at their max range while the former prioritize taking cover so they may run ahead of the tank depending on the stage layout.

We already got it, it's called Hyakkiyako. It's a school made up of many smaller ones, before the Alliance there was a "Warring Districts" period where individual clubs were fighting each other. Sound familiar? The difference of course is that unlike Trinity which is made up of 3 factions that constantly bicker with each other, Hyakkiyako has a bunch of them and they usually get along due to the high autonomy each district is given, with the Yin-Yang Club and Hyakkaryouran Council acting as intermediaries in conflicts if the need arises.

Yeah, I'm a casual player but I still follow the meta sometimes, for example I want Swimsuit Rok because you're a target in PvP if you don't have her, especially since you can't hide the lack of PvP meta students with the Special Slot as both are always visible, compared to high ranks where you only ever see one student on the defending team so you can get away with having off-meta students by just hiding them.
