I’ve done drive bys and recon on this place for about 9 months and noticed a significant shift from independent art, nature, cat pics, queer and trans shitposters, degenerate content on the home discover feed.

Now it is all rage posting about politics or get off my lawn type of shit. Some of twitters most cancerous and unremovable elements. That’s what you see now.

So anyone joining now will get the perception that this is what the sites about. The YC thread has a few people who saw that and said I don’t see the point.

What Bluesky seems to be missing that Twitter had is power players. On Twitter, people like George Takei were D-list celebrities whose deranged posts you would occasionally see amid other, better posts made by more important or interesting people. On Bluesky, he's some kind of staple of the platform. If you make a brand new account you're going to see his posts the way you'd see Elon Musk's on Twitter right now. It's the same story for similar left-cows such as Rick Wilson, George Conway, that Brooklyn Dad retard, etcetera.

Making a brand new account on Twitter and allowing it to shill at me, I've seen things like large journalist companies, bitcoin news, Elon Musk wanking his stupid rockets, the current acting US president, big stock market analysts, sports franchises, political analysts (both sides) and so on. While an argument can be made for Twitter doing things like showing brand new users accounts from people like Alex Jones, Charlie Kirk or other right-wing posters, this is delivered alongside things that actually matter (and aren't political.) Bluesky doesn't just come off as a hugbox for the sort of people who need to tell everyone else how nice they are, it's also irrelevant. And now it has to compete to not be relevant with a guy who is trying to put humans back in outer space and hangs out with the most talked-about man alive.

All this is happening while Mastodon is content to provide a platform for toy train enthusiasts, or lolicons.

This is why I stopped using Reddit. Gay as it is, it's actually a really useful place for weirdly specific tech support, but having to jump through the million hoops every sub has set up to avoid offending any of the programmer socks crowd is just not worth it.

What I've always found interesting about Kiwi Farms is how, for the most part, we seem to be pretty good at regulating ourselves without the janny's broom hanging over our heads. I've only ever seen 2 or 3 regular users get their collar felt because they refused to stop derailing a thread.

I recently had to start using Reddit for non-gay ops purposes because I got into Daniel Larson and World of T Shirts and most of the action is on Reddit. It’s horrible. The mods are awful. They’ll just lock interesting threads and ban users on a whim. There are word filters to detect if it thinks you’re going to post wrongthink.

A few weeks ago a major Daniel Larson troll named Lil Sippy posted in the subreddit. If he appeared on the farms he would’ve been given a pink triangle and everyone would’ve neg reacted his shit but he would not have been banned. Users were mainly shitting on Sippy and they were engaging with him to try to determine what his deal was and why he felt the need to poo touch. The mods banned him and locked the thread because they said he craves negative attention and they didn’t want him to get it. It would’ve been like if BlueSpike was posting on the original CWCki forums and the janny banned him before anyone could ask questions about his agenda.
Fuck Reddit and especially fuck Reddit mods. It’s much better here because Null runs the site with an iron but fair fist. I knew Reddit was bad but I didn’t know how bad until a few months ago.
