Mastodon the software is still around and working fine. I am on a little tech/ham radio focused instance that has been running it for years and it is as comfy as its always was.

Mastodon the big instance that all the twitter-exodus faggots ran to was was a flash in the pan though. The mastodon software just can not scale to twitter numbers on a single instance. It works better when its used by autists who will spin up their own instances for their little group and let that federate with all the other instances. And that was never going to happen because the typical endless scroll twitter brain cant build anything, only consoom.

The fedi has always been a fractured mess but the one thing that seemed to unit the shitposters, coomers, and commies together was bullying twitter-normies off their network.
Most seemed to fuck off back to twitter after a few days.
