I don't touch any poop on principle, but if I had an account on Bluesky, I'd feel enormously tempted to try and insert some kind of absurd detail into this collaborative fanfic about Jesse, just to see if people would run with it. Like that he has ties to the Russian government, or that he's Null's cousin. Or maybe something about horses, just because I know that BARpod fans would get a kick out of it.

You know how you get that? You allow the most extreme, psychotic weirdos on either side to be on Twitter, THEN IGNORE THE ONES YOU DON'T LIKE. You don't whine about harassment and genocide and leap off the platform the first time you go viral for being stupid. The alleged need for an alt-Twitter is driven entirely by the side who can't handle being on social media at all. They will never find such a home because they are un-housable in anything resembling a useful, normal, public platform.

They could go to any one of the smaller and protected services, of course. Hugboxes are a dime a dozen. But then they don't get that sweet sweet dopamine, or the eternal gambler's chance of going viral and juicing on attention. What they want is the upside potential of positive attention without the downside risk of negative attention.

Anyway, there is no such thing as a useful version of Twitter. Microblogging as mainstream communication is a fatally flawed premise, and every attempt at it should be burned to the ground. The people currently fleeing Twitter to BlueSky are the least qualified psychopaths to be designing any such attempt.

Ms. Penny? There hasn't been a Ms. I've met with a jawline like that. Pushing for codes of conduct when you're nothing more then a user is laughable at best even then staff who suggest that sort of thing should also be told to get fucked. There's been a couple people on this and the Jessie Signal thread questioning how bluesky makes money and I think I've come up with an answer.
Bluesky doesn't make money the user data sold by the parent company and the eventual AI tool they're probably creating and scraping Bluesky is the thing that will make them money. Give it a year or so if it survives and I'll see if I'm right.

I'm getting a dose of drama from the Mouthwashing fandom regarding BOO HOO MISOGYNY MALE FANS ARE BAD MEN HAVE NO COMPASSION TO WAHMENNNNNN WAAHHHHHH because of a certain scene in the game (which I don't care about and I don't care about the game and the fact that it attracts this stupidity is turning me bloody off). I haven't seen the Bluesky idiots talk about that game because judging by the fandom, it seems to attract those sorts of "people."

I kind of understand his predicament. Imagine you were launching a new decentralized version of Discord and the first thing people did was try to take control of it to cut out particular voices/opinions?

The real difficulty is in making something totally "censorship proof" but also not wanting it to become infested with CP and other illegal stuff.

That BlueSky is still relatively new and already has people who have effectively "taken control" of it for their own political views means it is basically dead in the water. It is a failed experiment. And it's funnier to let the lunatics think they have control of it and watch them sink it further from the inevitable infighting and unrealistic demands as well as themselves trying to instigate real world violence against people (and no, I personally do not like the last one but these people are fucking insane)

And the funniest part about BlueSky is that the lunatics running the asylum have such a poor understanding of shit that it's already a disaster (this can especially be seen in peoples expectations that a decentralized protocol can guard against AI using their public content for training data).
