It's gotten to the point where what they've created is so incestuous in opinion they're effectively self-shadowbanning from each other. The blocklists were unsustainable from the start as social media thrives from engagement and unlike X where perceived slights are met with controversy, they're still often responded to. I've been watching this for a while and it's fun to finally see this come to a head.

NYT has moved slightly to the center since around 2022-2024 with their low point definitely being in 2020 amid BLM, when an editor who approved a Senator Tom Cotton editorial was forced to resign. I think these days they get the most shit for platforming mildly TERFy opinions, but they tolerate some right-wing views generally. Or reasonable lefty takes about failing echo chambers.

Many Twitter artists are leftists. Part of modern leftism is engaging in willful denial of objective reality to facilitate a viewpoint (i.e saying that men can be women). They tried to prop up Bluesky along the same lines by decrying Twitter as a fascist hellhole that was bleeding users. Unfortunately a lot of them suffered what was probably their first violent collision with reality as they moved over to their dead gay tranny echo chamber and realized people weren't interested in following them.

They were literally too retarded to understand how supply/demand or brand loyalty worked. As for the missing features, Bluesky is notoriously shit when it comes to stuff that Twitter has had since it launched over a decade ago. It took them roughly two years to add gifs and videos and afaik videos are still limited to shitty quality with a max length of 30 seconds. They are completely unserious as a Twitter competitor and their only cool feature (the AT protocol) has stalled completely because nobody wants to build on their shitty, toxic network.

FYI if an artist I was doing business with suddenly changed communication platforms out of nowhere and forced me to make a new account on a new service for any reason other than the previous service getting shut down, I would just tell them to fuck off and stop wasting my time and that they wouldn't be getting my money anymore.

I have expressed this sentiment here before but it is such a damn shame that bluesky went nowhere. They had a chance to capitalize on a deluge of people willing to try a new platform and sympathetic mainstream media. Even if they were woefully lacking in actually useful features, they could have shilled the "create your own Twitter" aspect of the AT protocol to encourage people to build useful stuff for the site. They had absolutely no chance of dethroning Twitter, but they could have at least carved out a decent niche and made the concept of federation mainstream amongst normies.

Instead, they decided to try a hopeless direct attack and did absolutely nothing about the massive amounts of toxicity on their site that followed. They introduced systems that allowed random retards to effectively shadowban you from the entire site in an oblique manner which is very uncharacteristic for a decentralized platform and encourages hostility, paranoia, and building out your own circlejerks to avoid invoking the wrath of the fucking social media Eye of Sauron. AFAIK if you want to do anything with the AT protocol you still have to join their shitty little Discord server and do a goyim humiliation dance for bluesky staff.

I can't even say that they were just retarded and did it all by mistake because they very specifically curated leftists and trannies for the site via the invite system. This is the environment they wanted.

I’ve got at least 4 accounts that are so blocked that they aren’t even worth logging into anymore… My comments were not crazy or overt trolling, mostly things like pointing out misinformation. I can imagine others here getting many more accounts blocked.

I feel like it wasn’t much fun because the threshold for ending up on like 50 block lists was so low that you couldn’t even make one post. Difference of opinion matters and bluesky killed that dead.
