Yes, bluesky retards have a fetish for blocking. On twitter, blocking had offensive power: if an account accrues enough blocks it gets deboosted via the algorithm. Supposedly this isn't the case on Bluesky, but I'm pretty sure the "Discover" feed takes blocks into account.

The Bluesky subreddit is full of complaints of people being put on blocklists. Oddly, most of the posts are nothing but the complaining party saying how they support blocklists. Just not for them.

Blocklists sound like a great idea, but most people are dumb NPCs and assign way too much trust to these lists. They will happily let others curate their feed and thus control their thoughts.

And this in and of itself wouldn't be a problem either, if it weren't for the fact there's essentially no accountability, and those who are motivated enough to make blocklists are almost universally some of the most censorious and toxic people on the internet.

I recall when I joined BSky just to see what was going on, there were HUNDREDS of users sharing cultivated follow and blocklists. They'd post them, and you click on them to block or follow anyone the curator put onto those things without knowing who you were following. Then, overnight, you would have 10k followers and you'd get your dopamine rush.

Wow! Ten thousand followers in less than 24 hours! I'm super smart and valid. They would even condescend to users who didn't have these non-rookie numbers.

A very sorry life to lead if you derive validation from follower counts.

To those who are new or eturning to this thread, their fondness of blocking is not just a fetish, but an entire culture.

A big reason why they left X is becaus Elon let blocked users see the publi content of those who blocked those users, which is the same functionality other websites that have blocking functionality have. Compared to X, BlueSky has 'nuclear block' which essentially erases all of the blocked users' presence from those who blocked the user. Putting things a little gruesomely, if normal blocking is th equivalent of ripping ou the tongue and vocal chords of a user, then BlueSky's nuclear blocking is equivalen to murder, maxing the Sin gauge, and absolute Damnatio Memoriae. From what you can see, this type of nuclear blocking alone massively increases toxicity.

However, if you ask BlueSky, they will insis tha this type of nuclear block is indispensable to a kinder, safer experience because the internet is permanently saturated with 'fascists' and 'terfs', who do not even consider you life unworthy of life, but rather will never see you a living, existing human being, hence ALL of their engagement with 'minorities' is always wi the purpose of advancing their hateful ideologies. There is also ironically a level of dehumanisation: since they cannot comprehend how anyone cognent, let alone intelligent, can disagree wi them, they say that anyone to the right of Mao is a bot. This also leads to the blocklists: people can compile a list of 'terfs' and 'fascists', letting you nuclear block them all at once.

Giving the above functionality to a clientele wi the above mentality narutally leads to their 'block early, block often' culture, which, rather than making a chill, cozy environment, makes a paranoiac, narcissistic environment. You simultaneously are always put on guard against even the faintest hint, say, a 'dogwhistle', of someone who wants you dead because you simply exist and ar encouraged to perform lots of very easily-done 'murders' in the name o fighting toxicity, which ultimately leads you to using the nuclear block on anyone who, say, liked Super Mario Bros 3 or got a 3-leaf clover off the sidewalk.

(Being exceptional in this moment, I realised that BlueSky is essentially recreating the Reason of Musubi: everyone would essentially be isolating themselves away from each other and forming their own independent worlds to their own desires. Technically, there is interaction, bu the 'I am the sole centre of my world' philosophy behind BlueSky's approach to blocking means that you would essentially be talking with yourself all of the time.)

Your replies and QRTs become detached. They'll show up on your profile under "with replies" but without the post you're replying to showing up. Basically no one is going to see it and even if they do it won't make any sense.
