While there are some Bluesky users who would shrivel up and die without 24/7 access to the most vile pornographic content imaginable on every single platform they inhabit, I feel that, at the end of the day, the real underlying reason for this violent reaction is that most of the people making a fuss about it just can't handle being told "no".
In the last few days, I've seen Bluesky users, on this thread and on the site itself, dying on the hill of rape content despite not being actively involved with it, or even pornographic content in general. It seemed weird, but what felt even weirder was that this is not the first time something like this has happened.
Bluesky users, especially "elders" and the most egregious examples of the people-of-gender community, have this idea that they built the platform by themselves, so they are exempt from any rule and can be as gross, violent, and rude as they feel like, while dirty normies should be punished by the full extent of the TOS for the slightest of perceived transgressions. This is the third time or so Bluesky has tried to clean up its image and faced similar backlash (for example, during the big Twitter 𝕏odus, there was a lot of noise made when they tried to put a stop to the rampant CSAM content the pseudo-normies were being subjected to, and it only got worse when Trans users were banned for it).
Those users see porn as a way to mark their territory and to flaunt their domination over the owners of the platform. The grosser it is, the better: nothing says "we rule this space" better than posting things that would get you into big trouble anywhere else. If you can get away with that, you can get away with anything. It doesn't matter if the kind of porn they are trying to ban relates to their particular kinks or not: any attempt to enforce rules for the underground Bluesky "elite" is going to be seen as a way to take power away from them, and they are not going to take it gently. All of this puts Bluesky in a catch-22 situation: keep the site poisonous to normal users and keep the die-hard veterans that are the only thing holding your site together, or try to sanitize it for a wider audience that may or may not even exist.
