Should they not instead be attempting to retool the MCU for these supposed new audiences, if not canceling it entirely to produce something else they'll like? There's always going to be That Guy that nitpicks something in every adaptation, but generally speaking, you do in fact want to produce something that the fanbase at large approves of. They're the ones that will get general audiences hyped to see your movie, and if they're not interested, that's going to kill it faster than any strike or coof could. As an example, Peter Jackson's LotR movies made some changes that upset hardcore Tolkien fans (and Christopher Tolkien himself was more than a bit upset), but by and large, most were happy with it, and the trilogy was a tremendous success.

By contrast, even the most diehard MCU stans can't bother to muster the hype for Captain Resting Bitchface 2, and the fact it's also a disjointed mess of a movie isn't helping matters either. As Disney continues to shit over the things people actually liked about the MCU, this problem is only going to get worse.

Y'know, maybe I don't know anything about the film industry, but if it were up to me and I were in charge of a multi-billion dollar movie franchise, I'd make damn sure that the script was already good before I even greenlit production to start, thus avoiding months of reshoots once people realized what a mess it was. Yes, the Barbenheimer meme was silly, but I honestly don't think it really had much of an effect. Some people went to see both, sure, but Barbie's box office rose significantly faster than Oppenheimer, so that knock-on effect wasn't that great to my knowledge. In the months that followed, Oppenheimer's total continued to go up due to good word of mouth, long after people stopped acknowledging the meme.

The moral? Make a good movie and people will go see it.

(On a side note, I think a fair amount of people probably didn't go see Killers of the Flower Moon because, whether true or not, a lot of the marketing made it look very preachy about Native Americans, and that's not something a lot of people want to see. I haven't seen it myself, but going from Drinker's review, it wasn't really preachy; the issue was that it was just too damn long and meandering, and just when it seemed like it was going to end, there was another hour to go.)
