Most of those MAGApedes work on useful trades, or at least have steady jobs in areas you most likely make use of, where even the tiniest of screw-ups affect the lives of millions of people. If said tornado hit their homes and workplaces, the logistics for a lot of shit within the country would be disrupted, and the repercussions would be felt for quite some time.

This is exactly what is happening down here in Brazil. The Rio Grande do Sul state is suffering from massive floods that are killing dozens of people, displacing thousands more, and devastating important crops for internal consumption and exportation. When he was a kid, science fiction, futurism and optimism leaned fairly heavily into the optimistic liberalist view of the world, see how Star Trek presented and explored the Federation in the Next Generation for a living example - Basic elimination of poverty, disease, and currency for the most part in a post scarcity society. Bob wants that, and believes the liberals are the ones to promise it, and blames everyone else for 'getting in their way' and taking that future from him.
