Except a better translation of that verse is, "thou shalt not murder," which is a wholly different meaning. Obviously it's good to avoid killing in general, but sometimes it's unavoidable. One could easily get into a gigantic philosophical discussion on this and bring up trolley problems and the question of what a just war is and any number of other ethical debates that mankind has had for centuries, but suffice it to say that God didn't put a blanket prohibition on killing, just on unlawful and unjustified killing.

Kyle Rittenhouse was assaulted by multiple people that were clearly intending on causing him bodily harm, potentially lethal. He was justified in defending himself, and he was legally exonerated of any wrongdoing. By all accounts, he did not murder, and thus he did not break this commandment.

This is why I hate online atheists. They have no actual understanding of that which they mock, only surface-level hot takes that they fire off without thinking.
