Window dressing to appear progressive. If you take something like Wheel of Time(Books, not show) The female characters are written like women. With all of the good and bad traits that women have. It makes for an interesting and complete character that you enjoy reading about. When you gender swap a male character, and don't adjust the story, and the character's hangups and personality to match. A woman who is physically outmatched by every foe, and has to use her wits to defeat her foes would be entertaining, and make for a better character and story. A stronk 120 pound wahmen beating up very accommodating stunt men is not.

Now everything I've heard about Willow is that is indeed awful, and I'm sure that Blobbo is only stumping for it because lesbians and his thirst.

I remember hearing the actress that played Thea Queen in CW's Arrow saying that she was physically incapable of doing the Salmon Ladder that Oliver Queen regularly used, unless someone held her up. And yet her character was shown kicking the asses of men twice her size. So yeah, this is quite widespread - making tiny petite whamen look STRONK. I can't remember if Bob paid attention to the Arrowverse, but he was probably clapping like a braindead clubbed baby seal when the whamen beat up the mens.

Problem is, bullying doesn't "work" in many instances, and that's assuming any of it is "rightful". Autists, exceptional individuals, narcissists, and sociopaths won't be "fixed" by bullying them. Autists and exceptionals don't understand what they did wrong (if they even did anything wrong), narcissists and sociopaths will blame others for their problems and invariably externalize the issue, and so will Autists because they share the inability to self-reflect. Garden-variety taunting solves nothing. Besides, many people who engage in bullying are narcissistic or psycho-sociopathic themselves. They're not there to solve a problem. They're doing it because they sadistically enjoy watching people suffer. And, bullying sociopaths/psychopaths has the capacity to create another Columbine situation.

Now, did Bob morally deserve to be bullied? Probably. Would more bullying have fixed the problem? Knowing what we know of how Bob's thought processes work, probably not. After all, Bob himself admitted why he bullied others in school - it was for "cool kid creds", not to fix their alleged incorrect behavior. Most kids don't think far enough ahead to engage in bullying as a 'corrective' tactic.

It does get better, but it also has some problems even later. I think Jordan was trying to do a "What if women treated men the way men treat women in our society" thing but took it way too far, especially with the country where women get knives so they can stab their husbands if they want. Also, there was a woman who worked with Jordan on that world history book he did and when she met the wife, she apparently thought all of the female characters started to make a lot of sense. Also, Moiraine never insulted or belittled men? She spent the entire third book treating Perrin like her slave.

Getting back to Bob, he'd probably love the series if he was smart enough to read doorstopper fantasy (Though I don't begrudge anyone who couldn't finish it, the entire series was dragged out unnecessarily). Women dominating men, powerful dudes with magic powers, and there were 14 books in total so he has plenty to consoom.

having read the entire goddamn series, from beginning to end, I would have to concur. Sure, they have STRONGK FEMALE CHARACTERS, but most of the time said strongk female characters are straightup bullying the men.

I think what Robert Jordan was going for was a super feminist world and a set of cultures not only completely alien to what we know here in reality, but antagonistically alien to each other (the various kingdoms in the main continent, Aiel, Seanchan). I hadn't heard that Jordan based the female characters off his wife, but yeah, now that i know that, it explains pretty much everything. The fact that the other female characters laughed at him for being raped just means so much of what idiotic gender ideology/feminism in Jordan's life got into the book. After all, "Male getting raped = funny both IC and OOC" is a very common trope in literature and media. Reminded me of how Steve Shives behaved.

Not gonna lie, it is a compelling story, but it could have done without like 80% of the male-bashing and the male navelgazing about HOW UNDERSTAND WHAMEN?.

I always despised this about teachers. Ideally yes you should solve your problems with words but thats only going to work when people are being reasonable or when you're a better trash talker. Ignoring bullies is the dumbest advice ever, I have never seen it work. They always take it as a challenge that leads to escalation. Some times the only answer is punch to the face. when it comes to certain kinds of verbal taunting, I wouldn't say "ignoring" helps, but acting like it doesn't bother you DOES help. I remember ( :powerlevel: incoming) after a few years on antidepressants, suddenly I didn't give a fuck what people said. They wanted the regular LOLcowish reaction they used to get, and they couldn't get it anymore, so they stopped doing that. I could actually see the frustration as a result.

However when they get physical (different kids) that's another story entirely.

The real problem with teachers is that a lot of them have personality disorders. Some of them are "bleeding heart liberals" that don't understand personality disorders or how to deal with children who have them or even to identify them, and have a naive view on how to fix childrens' interpersonal conflicts. You get a lot of perfectionists (and lazy ones), and Narcissists/Borderlines/Histrionic cluster-B disasters come in both flavors. The lazy ones don't give a fuck but the perfectionists will often engage in bullying themselves - nitpicking children whom they've identified as scapegoats for their purposes, and other children will be favored as Golden Children and thus Can Do No Wrong. Society has identified the "teacher's pet" archetype but hasn't really gotten into all aspects of that phenomenon.
I have to wonder whether the counsellor Bob saw was merely a severely underqualified "School Counsellor" or hell, even one based out of the Church. Whoever they were, their qualifications were obviously shit, because one with qualifications should at least be able to have identified the root cause of Bob's problems. But then again, autism especially mild versions are hard to identify in the 80s, they've never diagnosed children with narcissism because kids are assholes anyway and it's hard to tell the difference, and I guess Oppositional Defiant Disorder wasn't a diagnosis in the DSM back then.

Going to the subject of bullying, there is a difference between having some shade thrown at you, and engaging in a round of "kick the retard." Children and teens are merciless sociopaths without pity. If many see weakness they will pounce...until they get punched. PL I moved a lot and had to start at new schools a few times. I found most of it stopped after you dropped one of them. A few of them I later became friends with. Then you had the individuals who came from broken homes, and picked on people to deal with their own issues. Those people you just had to deal with. It is traumatic for many people that age, however most people grow past it, put it behind them, and become normal, happy, functional adults.

I do think Blobbo was the victim of a few rounds of "kick the retard." However understanding that, does not mean there is a condoning of his current behavior. High School still lives rent free in his head, so much of his life is revolves around getting even with people calling him a fat retard when he was 15. He let that define his entire life, his entire output. This has lead to an extended adolescence that has lasted until his 40's. I have said it before, he has not had the personal and professional successes that would define a man of that age. He should be reaching his professional peak, and instead he wallows away on Youtube and Twitter, only notable for this thread.
