Whenever characters get really strong in like Naruto or Bleach for example it's show the Main character has to work for it. Yes they get lucky sometimes but still the effort is there. In American kid's shows like Steven Universe the main character is a fat retard who keeps fucking up and just keeps getting bailed out by getting more overpowered. Western media also has this new trend of demographic self inserts which are meant to be feel good self insert characters for whole groups of people. Like Rey from Star Wars is meant to be some overpowered wish fulfillment for women. This is one of the things that has lead to western media sucking ass in the last 20 years, because these characters are written as and seen as emissaries of whole groups of people. Any flaw with this character will be interpreted as a flaw that every member of that group has according to the showrunners. When a character isn't allowed to fail that limits how much they can grow and change.
