Symbolism is a very real thing. It becomes stupid when you're searching for, say, the symbolism in Super Mario Bros 3. Or the latest Adam Sandler film. Or whatever. I'm reminded of some retard on the Something Awful forums who was notorious for this shit and it was mindboggingly stupid.
That isn't to say it isn't a useful thought exercise to try and waffle on some bullshit. Knowing and learning how to do that is something that's fucking lacking.
The problem is that people become fixated on the 'correct' or 'right' interpretation or torture something to fit their 'interpretation.' And unfortunately, schools have to have 'right' or 'wrong' answers in order to grade students, so this is how we are where we are.
