I am just....flabbergasted. This might one of the stupidest takes I've ever seen. Conan was first published in 1932, The Hobbit was 1937. The Hobbit's genesis was in stories that Tolkien used to tell to his children, so the DNA was much older than that. Furthermore, we know where Tolkien pulled his inspiration for LoTR and that world. Arthurian legends, Finnish myths, and a lot of other stories throughout Europe. As much as I like Conan, I doubt that a 40+ year old Tolkien was reading Weird Tales an American magazine while living in Britain.

Furthermore, European fantasy at the time was Jules Vern, Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid. Conan by the time of LoTR's publishing in 1956 was relatively obscure. It wasn't until after LoTR's publishing in America, which at the time most publishers refused Tolkien, because "American's don't read fantasy" was the sentiment at the time. DAW books published an unofficial paperback of LoTR, which finally brought those books to North America. After which L Sprague DuCamp, began publishing his Conan novels in the 1960's which lead to the resurgence of the character.

Sword and Sorcery is it's own genre, and has it's roots in John Carter of Mars, rather than European folklore and catholic tradition of Tolkien. I think Blobbo is only making this comparison, because both have swords in them. It's not like he has ever read either of them. The comparison is just baffling, and I have no idea how he could have arrived at that conclusion. Is the fat that clogs his arteries, now clogging his brain? Has he alcohol induced dementia?

The correct answer to who should play Marty in a BTTF reboot is nobody, because BTTF is not a movie that needs to be rebooted, now or ever. Robert Zemeckis absolutely refuses to let it happen as long as he's alive, so we at least have that long of a grace period before studios try to do it. But even so, there's literally no reason to redo it, the whole trilogy is excellent and a remake of any would never live up to the originals. I know that doesn't stop Hollywood from trying because they're out of ideas, but damn, have some respect for Zemeckis and leave that one alone.

The audience that follows Ms Marvel....hmmm well, from a very brief search, it looks like she doesn't have a monthly book, and hasn't for a couple of years. This is a character that was never popular and never liked. Most people wouldn't give a shit about the character, except she has been forced down everyone's throat for over a decade. The audience for a comic about a brown girl with big hands, is going to be very low. Calling people who don't want to buy a comic based on teen girl, racist and sexist is not a great selling tactic and what the creatives have been doing for years. When the character's initial series first started, it didn't do too badly and only got cancelled because that was when Marvel was cancelling and renumbering every one of their books because they thought it meant more sales. Forgetting that just because comic shops buy more copies of issue one, it doesn't mean the fans will. Then Civil War II derailed things even worse, and well any momentum she gained went out the window.

At this point, as you said, no one gives a shit any more. I didn't mind the idea of the character, someone who'd grown up with superheroes as her idols and gets to be one of them. You could have done some interesting things with that, but all they did was basically girl Spider-Man rip off #3472. Except less entertaining.
