the funny thing about that Bravestarr episode, written by the Great Bob Forward, who probably understands more about storytelling than anyone else in the business, is that looking back at how Jingles Morgan behaved in both the flashbacks and the rest of the episode made it clear that dude was a covert Narcissist. As long as everything was good and he was being worshipped and adulated by the Marshal Cadets sufficiently, he was pleasant and everything was fine. The whole reason dude committed murder in the first place was he lost a boxing match and fell in the mud, where he was laughed at by the same Cadets that had worshipped the ground he walked on. He snarled "I NEVER LOSE!", pulled out his disintegrator pistol, and (offscreen) disintegrated his opponent. He would go on to repeat "I NEVER LOSE" throughout the episode.
