Interestingly, they also made the Russians (or Soviets actually) the antagonists or a plot point in adaptations that didn't originally have them.

For Your Eyes Only has the antagonist, a smuggler and former WWII resistance fighter named Kristatos, trying to sell recovered British spy gear to the Soviets. In the novel, he's an opium smuggler (with no Soviet connections) who tries to trick Bond into murdering his biggest rival, Columbo, who is actually a harmless guy with a strict "no drugs" policy. They also change their nationalities to Greek from Italian.

Really, the only common thread here was the action took place in rural Japan and involved Bond going deep undercover, impersonating a Japanese man to get close to his target.

Worst offender was probably Octopussy - The film has a rogue Soviet General trying to smuggle a nuclear warhead into West Germany and detonate it to kick-start WWIII. The novel? Well, there isn't a novel, it's a single short story about Bond allowing a disgraced British Army officer who hoarded a cache of Nazi gold post WWII (and killed a man to keep it secret) to ultimately die in an accident-as-suicide as penance instead of facing court martial.

what's even more egregious, is being a lifelong "Bostonian", he should KNOW:

1. The traffic
2. how long it takes to get through said fucking traffic
3. the best "backroads" / alternate routes to get around said fucking traffic.
4. Whatever Boston has that's equivalent to the DriveBC website where there's fucking webcams that show you what the traffic is doing where on the internet/Bob's phone.
5. When he should fucking leave the house to get there.
