I've said it before, I think at some point Bob just gave up and went along with the crazy because the inertia of Chris & Barb's combined crazy was too much for him to move. He was probably a homo hater to a greater or lesser extent and probably overly litigious, and he defiantly had a hard-on for conspiracy theories (he was fucking old though, shitloads of old men see conspiracies everywhere especially if they have "seen some shit" thought their lives). But at the same time, the "Bob and Chris, Dynamic Apartment Duo" years seem to have been some of the most successful for Chris realistically.

I'm inclined to agree with you, because when you think about it, we only find out facts about Chris when he has something to bitch or brag about. I think that his time with Bob as the parent he spent the most time around may have been the most normal stretch of his life, where he was living somewhere relatively clean and orderly and was eating somewhat healthy meals. (Of course I'm using "normal" loosely since we all know about Bob's own idiosyncrasies.)

Chris would have been better off if Bob had left Barb, I believe that without Barb, Bob would have set up a plan for Chris' life after Bob died. This among many other good things.

Also, if Bob had left Barb, David and Carol would be on good terms with Bob and Chris.

Barb is a terrible parent, but Bob doesn't fall behind.

He was a racist and homophobic man.

He was there creating conspiracy theories about the Greene County. He created the crazy theory about Megan and some gay kids at the Game Place starting all the trolling.
Just listen to the Matthwe Noble call, he was much a stubborn idiot about his special snowflake of a son as Barb is.

Sure he had some positive traits, like being insterested in traveling.
Maybe even trying to get his son to graduate a college. However, he started the tugboat plan, maybe deep inside he knew his son would never really be able to find a job.

In the end, he's a Chandler!

Bob vs Barb? That is a good question, brother! The Hulkster thinks it would be a pretty even match up in the squared circle, but Barb would win via Earthquake Splash after a low blow or the infamous "brick inside the purse" trick.

I really doubt that the cloud would have a silver lining quite that bright. Bob wasn't perfect, and I get the impression that his children stopped communicating with him well before any point where Bob would have considered dumping Barb.

Beyond that, do we really and honestly think that Barb would just have let her precious tardbaby go without a fight?

Saying Bob was a better parent than Barb is like saying "I'd rather grind my dick up against tree bark instead of sandpaper"

Or like saying "I'd rather have cancer then have cancer."

Cancer is cancer is cancer. Birch bark is rather smooth, sandpaper seems to exist only to be coarse.

Kinda seems like part of the reason as to why Chris is so fucked up now is because of his parents' probable skewed views on autism and its spectrum. I could see them mistaking it for a type of mental retardation, bloating its severity in Chis and as a result acquiescing to the notion that he is beyond help and as a result they should just try to focus on making their little idiot happy.

Either that or they were just lazy people. I don't know, there's a myriad of theories out there I guess but I could just so easily see old rednecks thinking autism is a handicap against which no progress can be made

Bob and Chris did indeed live by themselves for a few years, and Chris has told that he did love Bob, but he did not like him (or something along these lines) so we can assume that he was a lot more stern than Barb. However, Barb retired in 1996 and then moved in with them, this would be when Chris was starting his freshman year that fall, so I think his high school years would have been better if Barb had never retired.

Heck, without Barb around, Chris might haven taken less art classes, and more useful classes, but we know how coddling Barb was, she would have told Chris that his 'masterpieces' were just stunning and what have you.

I remember Chris saying before that Bob would yell at him, and Barb left the room. This was when Chris went into debt because he got a credit card. It's pretty clear who did the coddling (and none of the punishments) so Barb leaving the room when Bob yelled instead of defending Chris was a rare moment of her allowing her son to face the repercussions of his actions, but the fact that she left the room rather than yell at Chris too is also telling of how she treated Chris.

Not doubting you but you got me thinking - do we have any evidence or examples of when Blarb specifically doted on her special little man? Isn't all of the content of Barb her being pretty much a shrill banshee? I'd love to see some direct examples of her coddling Chris to his face, and not indirectly. I say that because to you and me we would probably be able to understand her actions obviously show they coddle Chris, but Chris being autistic might not be able to pick up on the fact her actions are coddling him.

So does Chris really think Barb is less harsh than Bob?

We do have a few examples, like Chris has said that Barb told him he was handsome, and Chris also said that Barb would be jealous of any girlfriend he had.

Barb's style of coddling might have been different from the way regular mothers coddle their kids. Some parents coddle because they had a shitty childhood of their own and want to do the opposite and constantly praise their child (going too far in this direction) others cuddle in a more permissive manner (buying their kids gadgets and etc) other parents try to shield their child from the harsh realities of the world, etc etc.

Barb coddled her son because she misunderstood what autism was and what it meant. She was fine with living separately from Bob and Chris for a few years, I don't know how often she saw them during this separation or what happened during this time, but it seems that in his childhood pictures there's a lot of Barb in there, holding him and etc.

Bob was a cool guy and strikes me as someone who you can have a nice conversation with. I mean, he was racist but a lot of old whites from the south were.

Barb on the other hand, is just a complete bitch.

Eh, people always say Bob was racist, but we really don't have enough evidence to support that. It's possible he was, but we just don't know either way.

I doubt it. The whole "Crosses Burning" thing seems like a memory, not a belief. Plus he considered Koreans to be amongst his best friends. For a man to love the UN and the world so much, I really can't see him being a big racist. Generally racists don't have vanity plates that read "UN 4 Ever".

I've always thought people only talked about Bob being racist because of the joke he told Chris about Obama painting the White House black. I've been in the South and racists there are usually quite vocal and proud of their views.

I'm not racist but I enjoy racist jokes, I laugh at Lisa Lampanelli. Maybe Bob was just trying to be funny.

Hell, Burp said far more racist things than Bob did. "GET YOUR BLACK ASS BACK IN THE GUTTER!" Bob only told a joke about Obama and said that he saw crosses burning when he was younger.
