Bob was a cool guy and strikes me as someone who you can have a nice conversation with. I mean, he was racist but a lot of old whites from the south were.

Barb on the other hand, is just a complete bitch.
Eh, people always say Bob was racist, but we really don't have enough evidence to support that. It's possible he was, but we just don't know either way.

Hell, Burp said far more racist things than Bob did. "GET YOUR BLACK ASS BACK IN THE GUTTER!" Bob only told a joke about Obama and said that he saw crosses burning when he was younger.

What makes Barb's racism a little more inexcusable is that her formative years were around the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement (the bus boycott and whatnot).

Racism is racism. I don't care if you're an old lady or an even older man. In my eyes both are disgusting.

Though I admit Barb is pretty bitchy herself, I don't share the forums view of Bob being a cool dude.
To me,he was pretty much a shit head himself.
Even if you take away the racist things he said and pass them out as "just joking". He was still going on about those gay kids at the gameplace starting the troll conspiracy with Megan, the green county conspiracy, leaving Chris at home with "an abusive babysitter" so he could go get drunk with Barb, etc etc etc.
Barb may be worse than Bob, but that doesn't mean Bob was a good parent.

Just sharing my opinion. Not trying to pick a fight with those who do believe Bob was pretty cool though, that's your opinion and i respect dat *yawn*

I know I'm bumping an old topic here but I was just re-reading an old obscure MySpace message Chris wrote pre-trolling and found [cwc=MySpace]this little gem[/cwc]:

I like the African Americans as equals. said:
But in my current search for my Sweetheart, my God-and-Lord-Commanded Dream calls for a pure, pretty daughter, and she did [sic] appear unto me black. So to keep within the Godly rules of my dream, and I've been raised old-fashioned by my father, my Sweetheart has to be white.
Maybe Bob did harbour some racist beliefs after all.

There's not necessarily any connection between Bob being "old-fashioned" and that suggesting racism. That line just sounds like a Chris excuse to me.

Bob made some effort to give Chris some discipline and encourage him to take an interest in the world, but he was really just too old to be an effective parent. Apparently his other kids before Chris turned out OK. Barb pretty much let Chris do whatever, the only times I know that she tried to do otherwise was in trying to get him to wear diapers so she wouldn't have :briefs: in the laundry, and when she confronted him on his tomgirl behavior, in both cases she gave up and failed. Cole didn't turn out like Chris, but he certainly did not have a happy childhood. Maybe if Bob had been young enough to keep up he might have been a better parent, but he wasn't.

Cole certainly didn't have a happy childhood, you're right, and the lack of a strong male figure in his life, or at the very least the same male figure throughout his life, combined with Blorb being Blorb, is going to give him issues, but at least with Cole, Bob tried.

The Chandlers strike me as people who really did want the best for their son, but were both so deeply flawed that their parenting suffered a lot for it. They both had their good points (Bob exposing Chris to culture/music, Barb's bit in the Father Call where she tells Chris to work hard and make something of himself) but their bad qualities just overshadowed all of their best efforts.

I doubt Bob tried, even if he wanted to. Cole was around 17 or 18 when the B's met, and Cole was off in Cali when they consummated their unholy union. Even if Bob tried being polite to Cole, he just saw him as "another asshole giving the high hard one to my maw". Bob had little to do with raising him.

That makes Cole's comment about "let me know when that fuck Bob drops" kinda sick. Even if you don't like the man, and even if he is a reprehensible Republican cur, you don't say that shit to your half brother, especially if he's a slow in the mind.

I love how in Chris's old Myspace link there he says "It is also proven that Majority of the Male Population are arrogant, ignorant of others' feelings and emotions, rarely give full thought to their actions before executing them"

He described himself 100%.

No. The Chandlers are people who thought their son was a retard that would be lucky to ever learn to tie his own shoes, and instead of getting him treatment/proper schooling decided the best way to deal with it was either ignore the problems, threaten with lawsuits or run away. Couple that with the constant shower of praise and coddling from Barb and you get someone that thinks shitting himself is better than having an orange face.

No. The Chandlers are people who thought their son was a exceptional individual that would be lucky to ever learn to tie his own shoes, and instead of getting him treatment/proper schooling decided the best way to deal with it was either ignore the problems, threaten with lawsuits or run away. Couple that with the constant shower of praise and coddling from Barb and you get someone that thinks shitting himself is better than having an orange face.
Sadly, you're right. I try putting the best construction on things/people, and then I (unfortunately) remembered just who it is that we're dealing with here.

In my opinion, both were really bad parents who neglected their son to the point where...well....their son has an entire wiki about him and is discussed in agonizing detail on message boards. Just the fact that they let their "adult child" throw temper tantrums loudly at all hours of the night and day at trolls via his web cam well into his late 20's is proof enough that they didn't really didn't care what he was doing. Most of us can probably agree that if we had a kid, even in their teens, that they'd lose all their online privilages for a long time for pulling something like what Chris did.

They even seem so lazy that even their "I'm too old for this shit" instinct didn't kick in with regards to his yelling and cursing of the trolls. I'm trying not to rant about it but honestly it's rediculous that any parent would just put up with such annoying retarded behavior and it sort of makes me mad.

We only have a narrow glimps into any of this but it seems that they only really got mad at him when it would possibly cause "interlopers" to interfere with living standards (This Is My House Video being the biggest example). I can say Bob would be much more fun and civil to talk with then Barb because he genuinely, as a person, seems less crazy and more interesting but as a parent, as they say, it takes two to tango.
