In addition, due to the pandemic and having some extra loot, but no where to fly to, there's been an insane amount of traffic at USA national parks, we're talking a 50% increase in traffic to Yellowstone since 2019. It's been mentioned in ITT but Missing White Woman syndrome isnt just it's a missing white woman, its specifically white women who are young, not unattractive, come from solidly middle class or higher upbringings, not addicts or sex workers, not disabled, etc.

i.e. the women that actually matter to the species. It shouldn't really surprise anyone that when highly-desirable women (young, fertile, clean, not junkies or whores, attractive, decent-to-good background and healthy upbringing in a safe and stable home) are mistreated people perk up and notice.

It's hilarious to me. At least where I live (a shitty bigger Midwest city) the people that complain most about gentrification, are, the gentrifiers. They get pissed that the once "hip" neighborhood they moved into a year ago has also had people move into it.

My parents and I grew up in an urban area. It was White ethnic (mostly native or first gen Irish, otherwise Puerto Rican, we got along pretty well actually). It wasn't bad, but now a lot of younger families from the gentrified hoods are moving in, because they're still in the city proper. It hasn't caused any problems yet but you can see it bubbling. It's hilarious when on the same street you have a new family that overpaid for their house complain that the family that has lived forever in the beat up dump is blowing off fireworks on 4th of July. They seemed to learn their lesson though, so that's good.

I’ve actually only listen to The Vanished when they cover stories about seedy druggies vanishing. I love the interviews they have to conduct with non-PC relatives and assorted crazy ppl while they struggle to make the whole clusterfuck sympathetic and respectable. When they have prostitutes missing it’s esp good because they have to trip over themselves to pretend sex-work is some sort of viable career choice.

What hipsters do is move into some ethnic neighborhood, make it "cool" and then property values go up to the point people who previously lived there, especially if they're on a fixed income, aren't able to live there any more and have to move or live at a lower standard of living.
