Director Joe Meredith's low-to-no budget trilogy of short films, set in the aftermath of an alien invasion and the spread of a mutating alien virus. South Mill District, Teratomorph, and the grainy, shot-on-video Variant. Really low budget, the use of jerky stop-motion and in a few cases what look like paper mache, these movies but the practical effects can be amazingly gross.

The difference is that The Incredible Melting Man sucks. Good makeup but the movie sucks. And that good makeup is only like 2% of the entire movie.

but yeah Akira the comics are worth a read, the movie is sorta a Greatest Hits of scenes from the comic roughly mushed into movie form
