The Intelsat 33e satellite has broken up in geostationary orbit (GEO) and lost power, ceasing communications services for customers across Europe, Africa and parts of Asia Pacific.

Intelsat said in an Oct. 19 news release it is working with satellite maker Boeing to address an anomaly that emerged earlier that day, but “believe it is unlikely that the satellite will be recoverable.” An Intelsat spokesperson said the satellite was not insured at the time of the issue.

Boeing losses on Starliner increase by $250 million (archive)

Boeing is taking another charge against earnings of $250 million on its CST-100 Starliner commercial crew program as the company’s new leader vowed it will not walk away from troubled programs like it.

The latest charge brings the total losses Boeing has recorded on Starliner to about $1.85 billion.

The front page of the Seattle Times had a headline yesterday implying there's more issues popping up with the machinist strike. I got a text from my insider last night that 64% of the voting members have rejected the contract that the union leadership was willing to accept. Boeing has been threatening to leave Washington for a while, but the last couple governors have showered them in tax cuts. This may be what finally pushes them to Texas.

So that's the 2nd recent one. The last failure was a really big hit to Viasat. They had a lot of government and airline contracts lined up for Viasat-3. That was their last chance to get ahead of Starlink.
I would be really surprised if any company will ever trust Boeing to assemble their birds again.

It really depends. There might be patents and property that could be valuable. Leadership will of course have to be fired, and the Bobs will need to be brought in to conduct interviews of staff that run along the lines of...
