Boomers, and especially liberal boomers, cannot comprehend any reality where they are not the smartest and highest forms of life to ever walk the earth. They are a generation with incurable Protagonist Syndrome.

They inherited the fruits of their parents' hardships, and then took that for granted as a sign of their own vicarious infallibility.

The concept that they could be wrong is literally unthinkable to them, like dividing by zero.

Where do these people think? Society is gonna go when they keep inviting more and more 3rd world hordes that is going to outvote them. I'm genuinely curious about these people and the delusions. Like I've been. In delusional states. Well, I'm completely out of it. But after I'm out of those delusional states, I realize what I was doing and saying was literally. A psychotic break and not in line with reality.

When I lived with my parents, one of their neighbors was such a fellow. Nice guy in person, retired academic of some kind, etc. We had a mutual interest in history and generally had pleasant discussions on that topic since I intentionally avoided modern politics. There was one exception, which is why I mostly stopped talking to him. Somehow, the subject of the Federal Reserve came up, and I mentioned that the Federal Reserve wasn't actually run by the U.S. gov't and was its own separate entity.

His response was incredulous disbelief and insisting it was part of the government, and when I refused to back down, he made a classic remark about "young people believing everything on the internet", and dismissing me as being stupid. I told him to look it up. And to his credit, he saw me several days later, and he actually had looked it up and admitted I was right. (extremely rare among boomers, credit where it is due)

The thing that pissed me off wasn't that he disagreed- lots of people don't know the true nature of the Federal Reserve. It was his reaction of immediately calling me an idiot and being condescending, simply because I stood my ground on something he didn't agree with.

Not necessarily the person you're describing, but I'm thinking the "I know everything about everything" stereotype comes from teenagers thinking TV is real life, meanwhile the other groups mentioned here have this apply to them as well.

One of my boomer aunts left a facebook comment mocking Republicans for this: "It has to be true, I saw it on TV!" I kid you not, a week or so later she made some post about Project 2025 (reeeeeeeeee!!!!!!) and how we all had to watch MSNBC that night so Joy Reid could fill us in on everything.

At the bookstore, it's insane how many olds come in and go "Do you have ______?" and when we ask for more information because what they gave us was too vague, we frequently hear "I don't know I just heard it on the radio when I was driving". There are times when what they are looking for isn't even a book! It'll be some special course exclusively on this one website or something! They don't know the author, they don't know when it came out, they don't know what it is but they know they want it. Having to explain to an old that you have to special order something directly from that person's personal website is like pulling teeth.

If you really want to feel sick, ask a boomer about dating. They'll shrug and tell you that they just kind of fell into relationships without any effort. My parents are still wondering why my oldest sister has literally never been on a date despite being late 30's now. They have this magical thinking approach to thinking some man with a six figure income (no, do not laugh too hard at the delusion that most men in their 30's make six figs) will just randomly pick her up without her putting any effort to meet men.

Boomers trained their millennial children to live life like them despite the world changing so that putting in almost no effort no longer yielding substantial results. Mention this to them and they'll tell you all about how their failure children are special snowflakes who will grow up any day now.
