He's already past life expectancy.
This is something I hate being brought up when talking to my Boomer grandmother. I love her dearly, but she believes that someone she knew dying at 73 is "dying pretty young". It's like the boomers don't understand that the Human body just wasn't meant to last this long. Late 60s-early 70s is pretty much the end of a "reasonable" (I.E., not a diaper-shitting zombie with a phone book's worth of medications) lifespan, and health issues piling up quickly after 75 or so is normal, especially if you've lived a hedonistic and unhealthy life (which MOST Boomers did and do).

They think they're supposed to live forever and be in great health all the while, and when they realize living into your late 70s onwards for MOST people means becoming a decrepit mummy, it's like they think they've been cheated!
They also...how do I phrase this...it's like they hate being reminded that yes, they are a burden on society and that society is NOT required to bend over backwards to accommodate them. Back "in the day", it was RARE for someone to live long enough to get that old, so accommodating that one person in your town/village that's fucking ancient was an acceptable mercy. Now, when it's the single biggest generation in the nation, catering to "the elderly" isn't "respect" or "common decency", it's an active drain on society.

I know my grandmother hated when I informed her that while yes, niggers do take up huge amounts of welfare money, baby boomers on social security are the biggest single welfare recipient group in the country right now. To which she says "well we paid in our fair share!", like social security is some special bank account JUST for boomers and old people to take out when they cross the magic line of age 67, and not a glorified "rob Peter to pay Paul" scheme. She doesn't want to accept that her generation's "entitlement" to social security literally only exists because the government legally robs me of my money (taxation) to pay her and all the other useless eaters of society.

Boomer traffic is real. I have to drive past a few senior living facilities on the way up and back from work on a one lane road. It's brutal.
They drive as if their whole purpose in life at this point is to waste your time and impede your progress (which is is), block the left lane and force you to pass if you're lucky enough to not have 2 boomers side by side going 20 mph and trapping you forever. They should all be loaded into a giant cannon and shot into the stratosphere.

You don't even need wait for them to die naturally. 3rd world "doctors" are being shipped over by the millions.

These "doctors" don't actually practice medicine, they use a flow chart provided to them by big pharma to over prescribe medications.

Boomers being raised to think doctors are Saints who can do no wrong, eat these drugs like candy.

Next thing you know they're in a cycle of worst and worst health being prescribed more and more drugs until they die. Big Pharma draining their saving and children's inheritance like the scum fuck vampires they are.
Yep and they suck down everything they see on TV.

The last ~12-24 months of life are literally 90% of all medical spending, on average.

At least in big city Texas, boomers seem to live off this slave-caste of hispanics. Cheap gardeners, cafeteria workers for their kids, maids, nanny's, manual labot, blue-collar trades & healthcare workers. It's a whole system that caters to them, if you aren't lucky enough to be born to the connected class, you're pretty much forced to leave the state, or accept serfdom.

Early 1980s here, and I, too, share the similar frustration of being in a transitional period between generations.
Mid-late 90s here, I definitely feel like I've more in common culturally with late millennials than I do with zoomers, though I definitely feel more commonality with them in terms of the situation we're in since, thanks to some arrested development, I'm in the same boat as them opportunity wise.
However, as far as those born in 1960-1964, you are boomer. And 1965-1971 are barely gen x
Me da and ma fall into those age ranges respectively and the former definitely has far more boomer energy than the latter. Nowt wrong with them as people mind, me da's just more of a boomer.

Early 1980s here, and I, too, share the similar frustration of being in a transitional period between generations.

I spent K-12 going to school with people born in the 1970s, have friends born in the 1970s, and generally share a lot more in common with people born in the 1970s than people born even a few years later than me. But according to the "experts," I am not the same generation as them (Gen X). Nope, I am the same generation as the child who was four years-old when 9/11 happened while I was in college (Millennials). The "experts" expect me to identify with Millennial four year-olds and not the similarly-aged Gen X.

I feel generationally "homeless" and always wondered if the other generations in transitional periods, i.e. late Boomers/early Gen X in your case, felt the same way. You answered my question. Thank you for sharing. I'm curious to hear any further thoughts you might have on being stuck in this generational transition zone.

In my case, I refuse to call myself or identify with the generational label I've been assigned ("Millennial"). I recommend you do the same. You don't have to identify with, defend, or feel any attachment to the Boomers just because some shithead somewhere said you have to.

Thread tax: Fuck the Boomer who came up with these awful and inaccurate generational labels.
That’s the reason sub-generations, like xennials and zillenials, exist. Most generational cohorts span between 15-20 years. Someone born in 1981 is technically an older millennial but would obviously have more in common with older younger Gen X’ers born in say, 1978, rather than the youngest millennial born in 1996. It’s mentioned as a criticism on wikipedia. Generational labels are mostly meaningless anyway, outside of being a marketing tool.

To which she says "well we paid in our fair share!"
idk about South of the border, but up here in leafland boomers paid 2% into the national pension for most of their working lives These days it's 6% of your paycheque for the first tranche, and then another 4% on some higher income brackets. So the next time you get the 'fair share' line, tell them you are paying triple what they did into social security. They have no answer for why your 'fair share' is 3x more than theirs for the same payout. Not that it'll change her mind.

I'm not sure myself, but given that inflation and purchasing power have gotten nuked, alongside taxes going up...versus how much the average Boomer takes out in SS, I think it is safe to say they've taken far, FAR more than they ever put in.

I wonder if I sit mini-Foxtrot on my knee in front of her, and tell my grandma "Every time they take money out of my paycheck for your Social Security, you're taking away her future piece by piece"...maybe that would make her understand.

maybe that would make her understand.
I wouldn't hit me-ma with a gut punch like that unless you plan to follow up with 'release her cut of the inheritance now, for an education fund' or something. It's painful information that has to be followed with a salve. Otherwise all she'll hear is 'my grandson decided to call me a piece of shit today.'

wasn't Boomers that passed the Great Society, Hart-Celler, created affirmative action race quotas, or implemented an entire generation of the some of the worst Supreme Court decisions in the country's history. That was the Silent generation.
As a matter of fact the generation that made the boomers has plenty to answer for, and made most of the truly terrible and nation ruining decisions that are the hardest to reverse. They were probably thrown into hell in almost as overwhelmingly massive a percentage as the boomers will be

I was born in the last year of the Baby Boom (1964).

Always feel like I get the shit for the generation I'm part of without many or even any of the benefits. Somewhere or other I recall a nickname for the ass end of the Baby Boom cohort being called "Atari Boomers" and perhaps there's something to that? (And yes I did own a 2600, right off the shelf from Sears.)

I'd powerlevel in my defense, and boy could I drop a wall of text vomit, but I suspect (fairly) nobody otherwise gives a shit, so I'd either be shouting into the void or embarrassing myself. Or more likely, both. Why don't I just say, except for some of the music and a few other minor things, I kind of hate my generational cohort, too. Odd place to find oneself, I suppose. But here I am.
Generation Jones

I feel like there is a similar phenomenon between millenials and zoomers, the actual Gen Y. Children of gen x-ers born in the mid 90's too young to experience core millennial things but too old to be an ignorant zoomer

The xbox 360 came out when I was 12. I do not remember the world before Pokemon existed. Much of the core millennial nostalgia was a shadow of their former selves by the time I got to experience them, like blockbuster or chuck-e-cheese.

Hating boomers is like hating jews or women. There's a year of two of revelation and catharsis as you learn and scream and shout about all their flaws; then you mature, accept human nature, and move on. The only time I still get pissy at boomers is when they try to defend their behavior - because usually it's the most myopic, indefensible horseshit one can imagine hearing, which is aggravating in any circumstance.

Damn Boomers!

They ruined Scotland!!

Many younger to core age Millennials were raised by Gen X parents. Boomers are a lot of peoples grandparents.
Most Millennials are the redo kids of the Boomers from their second marriage that they created helicopter parenting to raise them after half assed benign neglect/raised by wolves parenting style fucked up their Gen X starter kids they abandoned for their second wives

The generation that made the boomers was the one throwing Molotov cocktails at civil rights protesters.

>Hear about an industry that I could be good in that's supposedly suffering a shortage of workers due to the main employee base aging out into retirement
>Look up the equipment
>It's all thousands of dollars despite just being 2000s SBCs with touchscreens because fuck you pony up
>Opt-in for a rental program on the premier website for the industry
>Have to put the rental item in the digital cart five times in order for it to register
>Make payment
>Takes three goddamn weeks to ship
>The day after the shipping notice I get an e-mail from the website owners stating that there was a bug on the website and that they didn't get my payment information for the rental and that I'll have to add it to their site even though I made a payment through their site (???)
>Look at the menu they're telling me to add my payment information into
>It's broken
>Open the menu on two other web browsers
>Broken on all three web browsers
>Shit on the boomer messaging me and ask for a refund of the 200 dollar deposit I made
>Get an open source version of the product that is 150 dollars TO OWN - not just merely rent for eight weeks and isn't a 30-year old production model but something new in-box.

This is the PRIME website for buying parts in the industry and THIS is the best that they can manage? Appalling. I used the site for a collective total of less than thirty minutes and perhaps half of that was spent fighting through software bugs. And sites for dying boomer industries are ALL like this. Why can't they run a website consisting of a bunch of plugins properly? Why can't they do ANYTHING properly?
