Most Millennials are the redo kids of the Boomers from their second marriage that they created helicopter parenting to raise them after half assed benign neglect/raised by wolves parenting style fucked up their Gen X starter kids they abandoned for their second wives
this is a fucking laser spot on description of almost everybody I went to school

Almost everyone that wasn't trailer trash who gets pregnant at 18 had parents like 10-20 years older than mine. Most people had a set of old much older siblings they got their millennial knowledge from. It was kind of rare to find people with parents in the same generation as mine and my mom had me at the literal median childbirth age of modern women

At least in big city Texas, boomers seem to live off this slave-caste of hispanics. Cheap gardeners, cafeteria workers for their kids, maids, nanny's, manual labot, blue-collar trades & healthcare workers. It's a whole system that caters to them, if you aren't lucky enough to be born to the connected class, you're pretty much forced to leave the state, or accept serfdom.
You sound poor lol

In reality if you're not a colossally lazy person you can do just fine in Texas just about anywhere. Note that you'll make less in the rural areas.

Oh and the healthcare workers are venomous white women, Asians, and the occasional black person.

Blue collar trades can still be white of you're not looking for the cheapest one.

Who didn't give a shit about the OJ trial? That was all anyone was talking about in '95. It was discussed more than that time we got to watch a space shuttle explode in real time.
People too young to be very aware of it, which I think was the point.

social security is some special bank account JUST for boomers and old people to take out when they cross the magic line of age 67,
Boomers paid in via taxation just as you do. It's effectively a very delayed tax rebate for earners (or spouses of earners), adjusted for low investment gains on the pooled money and spread across everyone, is all.

idk about South of the border, but up here in leafland boomers paid 2% into the national pension for most of their working lives These days it's 6% of your paycheque for the first tranche, and then another 4% on some higher income brackets. So the next time you get the 'fair share' line, tell them you are paying triple what they did into social security. They have no answer for why your 'fair share' is 3x more than theirs for the same payout. Not that it'll change her mind.
In the US, employee social security tax rate has been at 6.2% for 35 years (since 1990). It's been over 5% since 1978. (And employer contribution the same.). So most boomers have been paying a ballpark similar percentage for their working lives as we pay today.

I'm not sure myself, but given that inflation and purchasing power have gotten nuked, alongside taxes going up...versus how much the average Boomer takes out in SS, I think it is safe to say they've taken far, FAR more than they ever put in.
Average SS monthly is around $2k.

A person making the average wage today of $65k pays $4-5k and change/year in SS tax, call it a max of $600/month. Employers pay the same. SS tax caps at a bit under $1000/month, because you max out at around $184k.

SS tax rates have been pretty stable for the last 50ish years. So boomers paid in the same percentage we pay. However, invested money (theoretically) grows over time.

If you were a boomer making $65k year for 35 years, you paid in about $175k ($5k/year x 35 years). If no SS and that boomer had invested every penny, a relatively strong but not crazy longterm rate of return (consistent 7%), would have meant they'd have had $1.2M, which, assuming 0% growth after 35 years, is $5k/ month for 20 years, or $4k/ month for 25 years, or $3333/ month for 30 years (5.43% of Americans live to 97, if you want to count from 67). But they get $2k. Say again why that's greedy.

* all math is ballpark

Generation Jones

I feel like there is a similar phenomenon between millenials and zoomers, the actual Gen Y. Children of gen x-ers born in the mid 90's too young to experience core millennial things but too old to be an ignorant zoomer

The xbox 360 came out when I was 12. I do not remember the world before Pokemon existed. Much of the core millennial nostalgia was a shadow of their former selves by the time I got to experience them, like blockbuster or chuck-e-cheese.
The biggest generational gap will absolutely be, pre and post smartphone.

I'm an early 1990s kid so I remember the INSANITY of early Pokemon and yes.... Beanie Babies. And early dial up Internet (fuck that TRASH).

That said 2007-2009 was literally an epoch shift when the iPhone and then the first android phones dropped.

Those things plus 4G mobile Internet changed the whole world in less than 5 years.

>Hear about an industry that I could be good in that's supposedly suffering a shortage of workers due to the main employee base aging out into retirement
>Look up the equipment
>It's all thousands of dollars despite just being 2000s SBCs with touchscreens because fuck you pony up
>Opt-in for a rental program on the premier website for the industry
>Have to put the rental item in the digital cart five times in order for it to register
>Make payment
>Takes three goddamn weeks to ship
>The day after the shipping notice I get an e-mail from the website owners stating that there was a bug on the website and that they didn't get my payment information for the rental and that I'll have to add it to their site even though I made a payment through their site (???)
>Look at the menu they're telling me to add my payment information into
>It's broken
>Open the menu on two other web browsers
>Broken on all three web browsers
>Shit on the boomer messaging me and ask for a refund of the 200 dollar deposit I made
>Get an open source version of the product that is 150 dollars TO OWN - not just merely rent for eight weeks and isn't a 30-year old production model but something new in-box.

This is the PRIME website for buying parts in the industry and THIS is the best that they can manage? Appalling. I used the site for a collective total of less than thirty minutes and perhaps half of that was spent fighting through software bugs. And sites for dying boomer industries are ALL like this. Why can't they run a website consisting of a bunch of plugins properly? Why can't they do ANYTHING properly?
Because hiring competent people to design a website is ancillary. To these poeple if you want to buy something you place a telephone call to their sales desk, who forwards your payment information to accounts receivable, who then mails you the Invoice which you return with your company's custom paper bank check. Consider your experience lucky. Where I work, there isn't a parts website. You want parts for a Mark Andy? ebay. It is literally just ebay. There are many industries where there are no spare parts, my machine was mfg 1945. There are no replacement components for that. You must make them yourself. And I do.

Talking about employment, this is how you get hired. You either make the parts or you make the website. Direct quote from the boomer CFO. These people grew up without the Internet, even just getting a damn manual for my machine is impossible as the mfg went under before the www. So the 1 shop manual we got, we literally made new bound copies of it. Because of this, my employer was one of the few companies to actually have an in-house parts supply warehouse where stock is drawn from prior to a outside purchase, which had to be approved by the boomer owners (all 3) in writing since it's their money.

I don't disagree with your larger point though. These same boomers are only now in 2026 moving into digitally-controlled, industrial PC run equipment. Most of it has to be custom fabricated assembled by their industrial engineers, and is basically a stationary robot that creates pepsi labels. 0 people there knew how to do it, they literally have one of the owners' sons doing it because the MA sales guy says it's easy to learn. So this 1 guy has now become Chief Engineering Officer with a DeVry degree in Excel. Which is deemed appropriate because the 85 year old man he is replacing did the same for his grandfather, but with bike chains (how most of the equipment is run .. standard bicycle chains) and high school Geometry.

That's the boomer world, when it works. When it doesn't work, it's literally 3-5 old guys on the telephone with microsoft tech support asking where the "start" button is on the Dell case or trying to figure out what a "control" button is so they can "control copy" and do a "controlled paste" their drivers into the right file folder, manually typing in $path one character at a time, or requiring all passwords be password. I have personally witnessed multiple adult men pull a DSP when Microsoft Tech Jeet tells them to press any button and they press Power.

when i was in the 8th grade the iphone came out and by the time i was in high school everyone had a smartphone. i bought one sophomore year and my parents yelled at me for wasting money but it felt like there was literally no other option every single piece of software and cultural development was on a smartphone.

also when the iphone 4 came out it was so far ahead of the curve that it seemed like a piece of alien technology that cost like 3 grand and then the iphone 5 was kind of dogshit compared to everything else on the market at the time. things improved so fast

The musician Sting is peak boomer, if this hasn't been posted already.

Yep and they suck down everything they see on TV.

The last ~12-24 months of life are literally 90% of all medical spending, on average.
A little while ago I lost my boomer grandmother, whom I deeply loved. We knew it was coming and that every visit might be the last but the television just had to be on. I simply couldn't take the endless adverts, having to repeat myself every other sentence, needing to fight for her attention against it; I cut the visit short, and soon after she was gone. I will never forgive myself for not just putting up with it. Sorry for the PL.

Don't feel bad. The intolerable is intolerable.

One thing I haven't seen talked about much here is how much Gen Xers are starting to behave exactly like their Boomer parents/siblings. They have that same penchant for calling younger generations out for participation trophies, addicted to phones, and being moreso shut-ins all the while not understanding that they cultivated all of those things in their kids. They're brainwashed by fox, CNN, etc just the same as boomers into believing the bipartisan narrative and have all of the arrogance of the baby boomers when it comes to younger generations struggling despite having jack shit comparatively to boomers. I can at least respect the Boomer for clutching his wealth in a death grip craven and sickening as that is but to have a Gen Xer try and talk down to younger people and call them lazy when they don't have shit is pathetic. They brag about that old tv ad reminding their boomer parents that they have children and don't know where they are as if that's a flex and not an embarrassing self report of child neglect all the while doing the complete opposite with their children and then have the gall to call them sheltered. Fuck Gen X.

I love my dad, and to his credit he's an incredibly hard worker and, in my opinion, an amazing father. But when it comes to the cost of living, he's just as out of touch as the rest of them.

I work fulltime as a cybersecurity analyst. During the summer I also work as a lube technician to stay active and earn extra money for savings. On top of that, I make about $500 a month from online income. That's three separate income streams just to afford a lifestyle that one income could comfortably support when he was raising a family 30+ years ago.

When I pointed out how much the cost of living has exploded, his response was that millennials just need to stop ordering DoorDash and start putting $50 a month into an emergency fund.

That's where I ended the conversation. If you know boomers, you know how it usually goes.. they've lived longer, so they assume they're automatically right. They didn't need the internet, so you shouldn't either--after all it's filled with scams, they made better financial decisions than you ever could.. Of course, they're life experience and keen eye for spotting bullshit doesn't stop them from sending the IRS $1,000 in Google Play gift cards because prison was an immediate threat.

"We the jury find the defendant o...-orenthal james simpson not guilty"

We learned about the challenger in the new millennium; specifically Christa Mcalluf (?) was the subject of a story we read.

Boomer behavior seems to stem from lead exposure, being raised by alcoholics, and TV obsession. The behavior is characterized by emotional immaturity and narcissism. It’s not their age, they were always like this. Old people can be great but it’s a requirement that they aren’t childish.

A point on the TV obsession, earlier in the thread someone talked about their Silent Generation grandma not watching TV while pursuing other hobbies, and Boomer parents thinking it was weird and concerning. I remember when TV switched from analog to digital, my mother kept telling me about it and I said, it didn’t matter because I don’t watch TV, I have DVDs and will watch YouTube on the TV but I don’t watch actual TV broadcasts. They seemed to think this was insane, sent me digital converter boxes (multiple times!!) that were the cheapest Chinesium and didn’t work.

Boomer parents often watched inappropriate things right in front of us growing up - I excuse it because back then, if you didn’t have cable, you kind of watched whatever was on prime time tv (obviously they didn’t have to watch TV at dinner but I digress). But go to any forum or channel discussing bad grandparenting and you will see story after story of grandparents intentionally putting on shows that are not appropriate for grandkids, millennial parents trying to set boundaries around it, and the boomer grandparents intentionally stomp all over that boundary. Powerlevel, but a simple “No Family Guy in front of the 6 year old please” didn’t seem to make sense to my parents. Yet if you dare mention Hansel and Gretel in front of them, you’ll get a whole “stand up comedy” routine about “How is that for kids?” (Insert laugh track which exists only in the mind of a boomer Here).

They have their priorities totally mixed up, and for all their years have gained really no wisdom, but again, their parents were alcoholic wife-beaters who basically let them run the streets, Lord of the Flies style, with zero oversight, then forced them to dress real nice and go to church. It was bound to fuck them up mentally.
