Older Baby Boomers force their outdated dogma upon others and are insistent on always being right even when corrected. I think their attitude is partially due to their generational cohort's inflated egos and a tendency of being more set in their ways as they age. Nobody really cares if you're right or wrong at the end of the day. What genuinely annoys people is if you're childish about it. Dogmatic individuals often have both stunted value systems and narrow-minded world views. Only their beliefs and experiences are correct and valid. The world should run solely based on their black and white ideologies in their minds. Everyone who disagrees with them or has a differing perspective is a naive fool who doesn't know what they're talking about. You don't want leaders and politicians with mindsets running a nation, business, or a company. Unfortunately, many boomers have this my way or the highway attitude when it comes to life in general.
The most notable Boomer with this dogmatic mindset who comes to mind is John Rosemond. In the '80s and early '90s, Rosemond had a very different attitude compared to nowadays. His parenting advice came across as reasonable and clear, and his tone was firm yet calm toward raising children. Over the decades, however, his tone changed drastically. He went from advocating for authoritative parenting that empowered parents to enforcing an authoritarian style, while arrogantly sneering at those who raise their children differently and experts who say otherwise. Rosemond claims to be the only parenting guru you can trust, despite the fact that he hasn't raised a child in over 30 years.
While he offers good advice from time to time, his pompous, snide tone and ad-hominem attacks alienate readers, even as he decries parents and younger generations for being disrespectful. When others call him out for some of his questionable advice or practices, he flatly refuses to understand his critics or admit fault. As a doctrinaire defender of his own era, Rosemond also brags about how the baby boomer generation is the most self-sufficient and most competent generation, dismissing every subsequent generation as worthless. He also speaks of his own Gen X children in an incredibly hurtful manner as if they were the worst things to ever happen to him and his wife. Nobody will care to listen to someone who's that much of a mean-spirited dogmatist, no matter how right they might be.
