It's pretty old, given the reference to a car phone. In this list, Sykes seems to be the type who thinks jobs grow on job trees. What would he tell people who have applied to hundreds of jobs without successfully obtaining one? What does he think about ghost jobs?

What's his problem with saving the rain forest? Rain forests are awesome.

Charlie Sykes' political views have evolved over time. Apparently now he is a libertarian who is a vocal critic of Trump.

Overall the list reads like something they post on the wall at Jimmy John's. I might have seen it there at some point, but I could be confusing it with a similar one from Bill Gates.

"So before you save the rain forest [sic] from the parasites of your parents' generation, try 'delousing' the closet in your own room."

With mangled metaphors like that, it sounds like his school was one that did away with winners and losers.

"Television is NOT real life."

Tell that to idiot boomers who consume legacy news as if it's anything but a soporific deliberately designed to keep them tranquilized by reassuring them their necrotic values are correct and the world is fine apart from a few select enemies they can get their daily geriatric Two Minutes Hate on to.

Charles Skyes rules for ingrates I should have aborted-

1. Even though this empty platitude has a crumb of merit, I'll say it in a hard ass way that comes off totally impotent from a man with a hip replacement.
2. Yeah, every successful person has made it by being confident, but you need to humble yourself and be a worm, you don't deserve success because you have your youth. Which I covet. Fuck you.
3. Enjoy poverty until age 35, sonny boy
4. If the teacher made you respect the pronouns, your boss will make you suck the girl dick.
5. Yeah, all us boomers talked shit on low level employees for your entire life and treated them like dirt, but you're worthless too. Get in there and make them McChickens with the Hounduran immigrants bitch.
6. I absolve myself of all responsibility.
7. It's your fault my life sucks!
8. My generation removed the merit based system because we couldn't stand not having a child who was just average, but it's also your fault somehow.
9. Why are you still reading this? Get in the cagey wagie.
10. The kids don't understand my references. Are none of you watching TV anymore or something?
11. This is Ranjeet Parkeetdoo with a degree from Vindaloo University. He worked harder than you ever possibly could, for LESS! He's your boss now.

Boomers learned to be selfless from the Kennedys and that is why they pass laws exempting themselves from property taxes that fund schools, infrastructure and hospitals.
I don't get what the first boomer is going on about, like does he think it's common for young people to have $3000 car payments and $6000 mortgages? I mean, put together that would cost $108,000 a year. Why does he show up to work every day with a positive attitude if he has a good retirement? He's probably in his 70s.

The Kennedy/Nixon debate is still well known to this day, as is that quote from Kennedy. Nixon looked like shit because he was all sweaty and recovering from a staph infection and refused to wear makeup. Why did boomers need to be taught about this in school if they watched it on TV?

"Young people are to blame for their school's policies."
It's just like participation trophies. They were invented by boomers who couldn't stand that their crotch dropping wasn't special enough to win so they threw a fit unless everyone could get a trophy. Then the kid doesn't give a fuck about the trophy cluttering up his room. There are all sorts of problems with schools that need to be addressed but boomers always focus on the wrong ones, or they even make up shit that doesn't exist like the litter box thing or kids getting surprise gender reassignment surgery.

Yeah, one problem with this analogy. Kennedy cheated to win the 1960 election. Nixon beat him in a landslide. It's just that he used his mob connections to his vice president and his dad's bootlegging connections, and Nixon actually cared about the country and wasn't a philandering homosexual pervert, catholic lapdog, communist.

But Kennedy is really the avatar of the boomers, a man who's outwardly supposedly Christian, but is secretly cheating on his wife, philandering around everyone's back, and is a low level criminal And actually will preach the concept of what you can do for your nation. Why? Stealing all of the nails and stealing money out of the till.

I've noticed how one repeating problem I seem to be having with boomer-aged folks is that when they have problems they don't want to try and solve them themselves, even if the step takes mere seconds. I've repeatedly been dealing with a boomer family member I'm living with have "tech problems" that are as simple as:
  • Flipping over the USB to plug it in the right way
  • Copying and printing, when I've already written a list to refer back to on how to do those tasks- they don't have the patience to read the guide
  • Changing channels on the remote, the remote has been the same for ~10 years
I hate being boomer tech support. I have to do it in ways that are outside of my family too. I know it doesn't apply to all boomers, but what do you guys think brings on this unwillingness to experiment and learn or taking the time to think?

Be nice to nerds
You mean nerds like Bill Gates who become elitist snobs that think they were born to rule over the rest of us?

Speaking of Bill Gates, my dad (not boomer age, but boomer mindset), bought fake memory supplements after watching an AI-generated video where Mr. Gates was recommending them. This is the guy who has told my brother and I to always be smart with making decisions. During the Covid lockdowns he would prattle on about "believing the science" and listen to doctors because they know what they're talking about.

This guy knows ball. Kennedy absolutely cheated using his mob connections. Nixon was one of the greatest patriots this country has ever seen and it’s a shame boomers always rely on “but Nixon was impeached because of watergate” whenever Nixon is brought up.

Fact: He was never impeached. He was about to be but he resigned before the vote could happen. Tell a boomer that next time they bring it up. The only presidents to have officially been impeached throughout history have been Andrew Jackson, Bill Clinton, and Trump for retard reasons.

Also, why were they trying to impeach Nixon? If a boomer says “because of watergate”, they’re a retard. He was about to be impeached because of “lying to Congress and withholding his presidential tapes” which are his sovereign right to keep secret due to executive privilege. Watergate played into it but they were trying to use weasel words and slimy political maneuvers to get Nixon.

Trust doctors. I literally had my Dr screw up a very important test which caused me to be hospitalized three times and have to get surgery to remove the problem. I'm better now, but. Doctors should be criticized if they're saying things that sound stupid, that you know why stupid. Doctors are not somehow these all knowing entities.

In my cases, usually because any technology reminds boomers how stupid they are and they cannot accept that.

I'll never understand their complete unwillingness to learn, though. I'm getting older myself and can't imagine ever feeling that way. Using new tech is one of few things that still actively piques my interest.

That second point is really telling and reminds me how often boomers are astonished when the solution really is to just follow the instructions. Parents being astonished their kids know how to put together a LEGO set or furniture (by following the instructions), customers staring blankly at the card reader chiming "please remove card" until someone tells them to take out their card, IT requests almost always being "what do I do?" with the answer being "what is it asking you to do?", etc etc

From my existence probably general arrogance, feeling like they've already did their part for society and are retired so what reason would there be for their generation to need to learn something new, even if it takes five seconds and would make their lives infinitely easier? Same sort of mentality as leaving shit around a store and thinking "it's not a problem, hell I'm giving someone a job by doing it!"

Some are probably tempted to believe that boomers' unwillingness to learn new things is common to all old people, but I've known boomers' parents and none of them were nearly as recalcitrant as their boomer brats. When older generations weren't able to learn something it was because they were struggling with new concepts or techniques. When boomers aren't able to learn something it's because they refuse to make any effort whatsoever to grapple with new concepts or techniques. Nobody talks a bigger game about how hard-working they are while actually being the laziest pieces of shit than boomers.

I once saw a boomer have a hysterical meltdown, unashamedly shouting "I don't want to leeearn! I don't want to leeearn! 😫" in so many words. She had no problem Facebook-stalking people and sending out poisonous, gossipy email all day long but God forbid she be taught something as basic as saving an attachment after 30 years of computer ownership. She would have been the only one to benefit from learning how to clean out her bloated inbox and stop her fellow boomers' bitchy emails from bouncing, but anyone trying to teach her how to help herself had to be punished for the effort.

Useless. Useless.

Fellow boomer haters on this thread, what do you make of this advice written by boomer Charles J. Sykes?
Ill do these one by one, since my view will be more devils advocate
1. True. It sucks, such is life. Best not be embittered by it.
2. Also true. No one cares about a thing you did if you did it badly, only that you might be better next time.
3. True in essence, but not in actual numbers. You should not expect the same standard of living as your parents when just starting out. That said, the average wage has doubled from where it was in 2000. 40k a year should be what you get starting out now, given inflation.
4. True more or less. School is easy.
5. Depends. If you have a college degree, then yes flipping burgers is indeed beneath you; the entire point of a college degree is to get a better job and not do that. What opportunity anyway? The opportunity to say "yes I have a current job, here are my references" at your next interview?
6. Also more or less true. This is what annoys me about redditors. "My parents never taught me to do [x]." Like yes they should have done that, and failed in that capacity, but you're an adult now, the only person who is going to rectify that is you. You have to take ownership of who you are once independent.
7. Trueish. He's technically correct (not unlike one Juden Peterstein), but its a balance. Yes the filthy young people need to learn to get with the system and clean their rooms, but said filthy young people are also the only ones with the energy, time, and gusto to go out there and change the world. 2 things can be true at the same time
8. This is just a dumb boomer thing IMO. Anyone actually in this scenario will figure it out after their 3rd firing.
9. Also a dumb boomer thing. People do figure it out on their own time, its called "PTO"
10. It would be more apt to say "the internet is not real life" though I think this problem is more or less universal Boomer-Zoomer.
11. No, and let's hope it stays that way. A good programmer does not a good manager make.

I think the big issue here isn't that its all wrong and stupid, I think that it's just incredibly tone deaf. "Flipping burgers is an opportunity" for what exactly? A raise? Raises only come to people that know people in management/HR. Its not 2006 anymore.

This guy knows ball. Kennedy absolutely cheated using his mob connections.
I'm not entirely convinced that JFK wouldn't have won without the cheating, but it's pretty much undeniable, provable fact that was one of the most rigged elections we've had in modern history. (Especially the shit that went down in Chicago if you know what I mean. Every dead man is a Democrat!)

My grandpa used to work for the government. One of the stories he told me was that he was trolling around in his government vehicle with his partner outside Vegas, I think. It was the middle of the election. He pulls over a person of interest and opens the trunk to find bags and bags of counterfeit ballots filled out entirely for JFK. He gets to a phone and calls the offices of Nixon’s campaign.

Eventually he somehow gets up the line to talking with Nixon himself on the phone. He tells Nixon what he found and asked if he should blow the lid on it and report it in. Nixon tells him to not worry about it and that he’s not the first one to find such stuff.

I’ll have to get confirmation on the story because it’s been 15 years since I heard it and I’m sure to be misremembering a few details. But among the stories told to me, my grandma and grandpa got to have dinner with Nixon at the whitehouse for services rendered. Can’t PL too much. I’ll report back if I need to correct anything.

Also, if a boomer hates Nixon, I automatically assume they’re a retard. The Nixon administration was so based.
