Borderlands (1, 2, 3, The Pre-Sequel, TftB)

I can't wait for your Vault Hunter to not matter in the fucking story at all and spend the whole game being led by the nose while not even showing up in the fucking cutscenes. Seriously, if you're going to charge money for ingame cosmetics, I expect to at least see my character, you know, exist in the game world. But no, Stiny, get me a danish.

Or how no one really reacts to your character in any way. Seriously, in BL2, you can have the Krieg roll into the camp and everyone reacts to this ripped as fuck 7 foot Psycho being in Sancuary like water being poured into more water. TPS, for all it's faults, at least made the effort to add small details like, if played the Claptrap, having Jack say he removed your security clearance.
Yea I hated that shit BL3 too, your vault hunter would defeat the villains or kill some huge monster, and all the npcs would be like "wow did you see what Lilith did/Ava! What a badass!"

This even happened oddly when Lilith wasn't even present so I wonder if earlier in development she did do this shit instead of the Vault Hunter and they were just too lazy to update the cutscenes or something.

inb4 some idiot doesnt realize this is satire

Cool, I'll probably do what I did with 3, that is wait until 2027 when it's available on Steam, on a 80% discount, and with a dialogue skip mod.

The fact that they’re making a fourth one along with poor, mediocre reviews from the movie that no one asked for is just a bad look.
Randy 100% believes that putting out a trailer after such a disaster is something only a CERTIFIED, BONA FIDE, ULTRA CONFIDENT BADASS would do. In reality we all see it's basically the crying wojak with a mask on meme.

Borderlands 2 shit all over Roland and Borderlands 3 shit all over Lilith.

I'd ask what popular character is going to get utterly ruined by Borderlands 4 but I don't think anyone likes the franchise or any of the characters enough to care anymore.
At least Jack got saved from being shit on because of Tales. Sure, he got half shit on in 2, but it was clear as day that meddling was behind it on the writing department. Roland and Lilith are just too unsalvageable, which makes it more sadder.

My bet was on Knoxx since he was a funny suicidal dude, but the movie ruined him already. Not sure how popular he is, though. If we continue to the main crew after the movie, that probably makes Brick next on the chopping block.

I was actually replaying the pre-sequel when i saw the news. thought it was a bug at first lol. doubt the movie brought any new fans.

Might just skip out on this one. I enjoyed BL3's gunplay, classes and upgrades, but that was really all that it had going for it. The story was trash, the characters were trash, the endgame became trash, the inventory space was trash, and Gearbox's response to ongoing problems was trash. I eventually burned out on levelling classes because playing the story again was awful. Loot management started to feel like doing your taxes and "grind the same place 500 times for a chance at a gun with the variant you want" isn't captivating.

I know the story is already dead, but maybe if they brutally kill off Ava I'll be satisfied (they won't though, they think she's a good character). Gameplay-wise they need some variant-changing mechanic that just lets you pick what you want for $8 million or something.

The only way I can see the generating any interest in this game is to kill off Ava in the most brutal and gory way possible.

Won't happen though since she's clearly a writer's pet type character.

Based and truth pilled. Didint she get sidelined hard in all DLCs? Maybe the writers took the hint but after seeing new tales from the borderlands, I doubt it.

I was so confused by the promotion of Ava as some super badass and Lilith's heir at the end of BL3. She was introduced as a gag buttmonkey sad girl character who lived in the fart cave and wrote in her diary how sad and pathetic she was.

Her being a secret Siren who inherits Lilith's powers at the game's conclusion was so far out of left field it almost makes me wonder if it was added at the last minute and wasn't in the original script.

It wouldn't surprise me either if the whole "Ava, a 10yo girl, inherits the Crimson Raiders and Sanctuary" plot was added at the last second. To whatever credit they think they have, we knew she was an apprentice for Maya for a while, but we also knew that (until BL3 decided to lorefuck Sirens Shyamalan-style) Sirens were like Avatars, in that "there are only six and two can't exist with the same power" ergo it was commonly thought that when one siren died another girl spontaneously inherited some version of Siren power.

(One of) The problem(s) is that BL3 really wanted to eat its cake and have it too with how Siren-heavy the game was, which turned them simultaneously into demigods who can distribute, gift, absorb and/or transfer their powers to other people with no buildup or explanation and also turn them into universal janitors who are tasked with maintaining energy balance or some shit.

"Oh sirens can't go to an Iridium plant, that'd be dangerous for them! Here, Amara the Siren, you go in our stead!" Being a Siren doesn't mean anything anymore, except for when it does by the story's retarded standards, and Ava is the most Siren-y Siren to ever do anything and she's so cool and her backstory is TRAGIC and her heroes journey started when she mouthed off to the bad guy and got her mentor Thanos'd and no one called her out on her behavior in fact she is so compelling that the main character of the series decided to give her the keys to the kingdom right before her heroic sacrifice.

Give me stickers but I still think Troy would've been a better final villain, if we have to choose between Tweedle Dumb and Dumber.

Are there any games that fill the looter shooter single player niche as well as BL does? I can't stand the writing so the series died after 1 for me. But I really like the gun play and loot and would love similar games.

There was a bit in Krieg's DLC for BL3 where Maya offered up some nothingburger explanation as to why she chose Ava to be a Siren. Apparently there was also some kind of detective murder mission DLC for Ava as well.

Frankly, by that point I didn't care so I blocked out whatever Maya said - no explanation is apt for why a loser as incompetent and shitty as Ava would be selected. Likewise, by the point the whodun̈nit stuff came out I had already stopped playing.

Yeah, I hated that part. She needed a backhand across the face and to be told that she was the sole person responsible for Maya's death on Team Lilith. That they let the little runt carry on was frustrating.

Is it true that Handsome Jack's VA largely ignored the script he was handed and ad libbed hs lines and it made Randy and Burch incredibly asshurt that fans thought the ad libbed lines were funnier than the ones they wrote?
Even if it's not, it is commonly believed to be so and the seethe it generates from Burch is worth it.

Lilith is the main character of Borderlands and the player character is just there to be there. Which is exceptionally unfortunate because she fucking SUCKS as a lead. Borderlands is better when it has nothing to do with Sirens at all, who were originally just weird alien psychics and not the most important people ever.
Her being a secret Siren who inherits Lilith's powers at the game's conclusion was so far out of left field it almost makes me wonder if it was added at the last minute and wasn't in the original script.
This and Tanis were absolutely baffling turns. Who wanted Tanis to be a Siren? Why are Sirens so fucking important? Can we please focus on literally anything else?

Tannis ONLY became a Siren because she was a popular character, to the point where they way played up her autism in BL2 only to make her like the weirdly most normal character by BL3 because she was the only character they allowed to keep some of her brain. She even says something akin to "you know it's bad when I'm the one that has to give a farewell speech" or something along those lines.

And c'mon, we all know why Sirens are so hyped as the series progressed. Burch and co wanted to put more focus on the "girlboss" aspect and were butthurt that the three most popular games in the series feature the straight white male villain so they kept putting Siren bullshit in there like a "no see they're the keys to the entire universe, they're the most important aspect of the whole series."

Oops, maybe shouldn't have mentioned that there can only be six in the entire fucking universe simultaneously. It would be so easy to say "oh yeah that was a Jack fact and he was dead wrong" but nope, gotta try to work around our retard logic and make it seem like a "Girls get it done" thing when it's just trying desperately to turn fan unfavourite Ava into the main character when you keep shitting on female characters people actually like (Maya, Aurelia, Fiona) because of this stupid Siren bullshit.

Main problem with Sirens is they pretty much mean nothing now. Before it was just a small group of females, now it feels like EVERYONE is a Siren, with the stupidest example being Tannis. Hell even males can now be Sirens with the introduction of Troy as long as you throw in some sloppy "uh, he was a conjoined twin or something" excuse. It's just another example or Gearbox having zero self-restraint.

I don't expect it to slow down either as I'm pretty sure 4 is going to be all about the Siren/Eridian backstory shit.
