Borderlands (1, 2, 3, The Pre-Sequel, TftB)

Spotted this on r/boxoffice:
'Borderlands' has ended its box office run after just 4 weeks with just $15.4 million domestically, for a horrible 1.80x multiplier. Worldwide total stands at $30.9 million.

EDIT: Finally done. Left two unarchived because they're just announcements of the film's Eli Roth cut. Whatever made it into theaters was not that.

The reshoots are always a death sentence for any remaining hype. It was always going to be shit, the storyline in the games was shit so no idea how they would translate the actual decent gameplay into a movie. But the bizarre casting choice, the fact the movie feels like its generated from AI that used Reddit as a dataset, the change and reshoots, all ear marked this as crap.

I wonder if it was still shit out as some sort of tax write off, I know thats a thing the movie industry likes to do.

The last main Borderlands "game" was New Tales from the Borderlands and saying its a bad game is the understatement of the century. if that is what we have to look forward to, Then the game is already dead.

The Tales games are not main games, or they wouldn't be Tales from the Borderlands, they'd just be Borderlands #whatever.

Dragon's Keep is a DLC for 2, it was packed into a standalone to hype up Wonderlands, which has good gameplay, but the worst writing so far, Wanda Sykes as a sassy black robot, and Mike, the FTM tranny paladin crammed into way too much of the game and whose appearance will make you want to puke.

Been a while since I touched on this brand, which is surprising given its yours truly but I almost celebrate the fact Handsome Jack was nowhere in the movie, almost like they had some level of decency by not having the character that clearly seemed to have been holding this franchise on his back like Atlas in the stinky pile of goatshit and the lack of any post credit scene teasing him also demonstrates everyone involved in the project knew that this would never spawn any sequels. Even Randy knows it but he clearly didnt take it well as it was a sign that Borderlands was truly in a downward spiral of diminishing results.

The fact that they announced B4 to very little fanfare around the movie's launch shows either a lot of faith or very little of it in the state of the brand because B3 onwards constantly had them earning less and less so it was an attempt at regaining some of the fans back?

I think even if you ignore the childish writing/humor that B3 onwards had, there is very little that Borderlands does that feels engaging or fresh anymore. Every game nowadays wants to be obnoxiously quirky and funny, its just not unique anymore and the fact that B3 kind of ignored what the previous entries were building up towards kind was the sign that we werent heading towards some badass climax but just doing whatever Gearbox feels like they want to do in this specific entry.

There is no reason anyone should look forward to B4 and the movie's catastrophic failure is a bad omen of things to come.

This game was Dustborn before Dustborn.
 
I believe Borderlands stopped being fun for me after 2. In 2 i had tons of fun as my favorite meat bicycle enjoyer, Krieg. The dlc for it were great and overall i would play all characters eventually into TVHM. 3 arrived and ill be honest fellow kiwis, i fell for the marketing scheme and bought a copy when it came out. I picked the chick with the mech and started playing and as i played i realized that the story was shit, the villains were basically zoomers with powers and for some fucking reason they killed off maya in what couldve been avoided entirely. Ava is a complete waste of a character spot and undeserving of being a siren. After pushing myself to finish the campaign, because momma didnt raise no bitch, i stopped playing and have never played it again, not even when they released the Krieg Dlc. When tina wonderland came out i instinctively avoided it due to how shit 3 was. The only positive of 3 is that it made me appreciate Pre-sequel.

My hype went into the negatives. Visually identical to 3, and the playable cast looks generic and repulsive at the same time. It got worse as I upped the quality.
