Calmly, he makes sure to soak every single button on the control panel before stepping to the elevator doors to leave. Once at his floor the elevator malfunctions after opening a bit. Things turn worse when the lights start flickering. In a panicked state, the boy starts pressing buttons but nothing happens.
The boy was rescued by maintenance staff from the building without being hurt. After crews reviewed CCTV footage to see what happened, they learned that the boy was responsible for what happened on the elevator.
The incident occurred in Chongqing, a city in southwest China, at an apartment building. News of the incident sparked outrage on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform. Many of the commenters were upset with the boy.
Little Emperor Syndrome
An explanation for this sort of behavior from Chinese children is the Little Emperor Syndrome. It is not a real disease but an explanation as to why Chinese children act in this selfish manner.
When the one-child policy started, the Chinese population was successfully contained but created a host of problems for China. There are 32 million for marriage-age men in the country than there are women.
This also created a different atmosphere for the children. Being the only child in the family meant that all attention and affection went towards them, which can lead to an inflated sense of self-importance. In China it is known as xiao huangdi or little emperor.
These children are said to believe that they are the center of the universe because this is how they were raised. People in China say that the solo children grew up completely entitled without having to experience disappointment. This leads to acting however they want."
