Because I have a nearly insane (probably slightly autistic) love for history, especially European history in the Middle Ages and Renaissance Now I'm not particularly religious, but I find the idea of one man and his followers defeating *five* papal crusades in pitched combat before succumbing at the hands of political trickery to be pretty inspiring. Especially when his execution laid the foundation for the Protestant reformation.

I ironically have a better claim on being a Christian than you Brad. I at least give unto Caesar's what is his (money to the government) for one thing. I also don't condemn people out of spite... two things you refuse to do.

Yeah, Hus was fun, since he was one of the first guys to really get into shittalking the Church for a lot of good reasons at this point (popes were puppets of kings with the Rome-Avignon split, Indulgences greased the wheels, etc.) in time. Others did it, like the Fraticelli order, and Wycliffe as well, but he was the grandaddy for which Luther, Zwingli, and Calvin wrote their works on.

I agree. I just read his Wikipedia page really quick. Thank you for bring Jan Hus and the Hussites to my attention. I plan on reading up on him some more.

Please don't ever apologize for having a a very strong "love for history"* - that's a beautiful thing even if we disagree on the particulars. I could certainly be better at European History as this example exposes.

Which I believe led to George Podebrady (Jiri z Podebrad) gaining power, the first guy to suggest some kind of European Union... Course when he died, throne passed to the Hungarian Jagellions and then back to the imperial Hapsburgs if I remember correctly.
