Richard, have you ever bothered to read up on Buddhism and all of the types of Buddhism there is? Or the full story on what Siddhārtha Gautama did? Oh wait, the only thing you know about Buddhism is what you see on Wikipedia. Also, he didn't spend four weeks under the Bodhi tree before he found enlightenment, he spent 49 days, however this number has changed over the centuries. After all, nothing about it was written until around 200 to 400 hundred years after his death (I've read some texts that it was eleven days). Things get worse when you read about how Hinduism considers Gautama an incarnation of Vishnu and adding things to it to fit their religion.

That being said, your numbers mean shit Richard, when you read the texts in Buddhism it just used as a time frame. Every religion likes to give time frames for their stories. It helps to make them seem more real when in reality they're not.

Over the next three days I'll be out spending time with friends, person I'm seeing, and family for the News Years, what do you plan on doing Richard other than going online and sprouting gibberish?

Before you get into the Four Noble Truths, there are other's out there, just like how there's two other Paths outside of the typical Eight. A little reading goes a long way. Buddhism changed a lot over the years and between countries, sometimes to the point where it ceases to be what Buddha wanted.

In case anyone wants to know, when anyone refers to anything past the establish Four Noble Truths and Eight Fold Path, it's considered Transmundane, a word meaning "reaching outside of the physical world", for some, something you just can't grasp. I personally think the reason why some things were stripped away from Buddhism is because it was seen as "too impossible" for the majority to succeed at.
