I take it you don't know that the lunar phase can change due to the elliptical shape of the moons orbit around the planet. This also changes because the moon is drifting away from us at a rate of 3.78cm a year which has the added benefit of making our planet rotate slower and making the lunar phase longer over time.

None of those words are pictures implying meaning. Apple does not resemble an apple. Horse looks nothing like the animal, nor does the word Hippopotamus look like the cuddly laser army you believe we all shall be. And that's not even getting into more conceptual words like Up, Left, Right, Tuesday, or Schizophrenia.

The Latin alphabet is not pictographic, and has not been remotely pictographic for roughly 4000 years when Aleph was turned from a picture of a cow into a phoneme.
